  • Overview

    The Nurse Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of Nurse extern and residency programs and participants. The Program Manager serves as the Nursing liaison for DCH clinical affiliate partners and  works closely with the human resources and nursing leadership teams to develop strategic recruitment plans to market DCH as an employer of choice to nursing professionals. The Program Manager maintains and updates vacancy reports for nursing staff, prepares staffing reports, and tracking of extern/residency staff within nursing. This position also assists in planning, organizing, and implementing creative ideas to recruit and retain nursing staff. As a representative of DCH, must have excellent public speaking and written communication skills and exemplify professionalism and enthusiasm. The program manager performs a variety of recruitment and retention functions. Interviews and screens extern applicants and refers to the department level for hiring decisions at the conclusion of their externship

    Responsibilities

  • Works as the nursing liaison and facilitator for all internal and external questions or guidance concerning (nursing) job and/or scholarship opportunities within DCH.
  • Develops relational partnerships with local schools of nursing in coordination with the nursing leadership team.
  • Rounds on externs/nurse residents to ensure they are receiving appropriate support and oversight
  • Participates in recruitment advertising coordination and review with Nursing, HR and Marketing team
  • Uses applicant tracking system for requisition tracking, job postings, pertinent applicant and interview data and reporting.  Prepares and maintains periodic reports as needed.
  • Builds applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, media, and internet sites. Provides information regarding career opportunities in the Health System and the total rewards package. Makes presentations to these and other groups.  Participates in a variety of career fairs, conferences, etc.
  • Coordinates the full cycle of the recruitment process, including recruiting, screening of qualified applicants, interviewing, and new hire on boarding for the Health System.
  • Serves as the nursing resource for nursing clinical affiliate partners, their representatives and their students
  • Conducts applicant screening, determines job qualifications, and departmental “fit”.
  • Evaluates trends in recruitment and the job market as well as recommends recruitment strategies.
  • Responsible for extern, intern programs, job shadowing and/or scholarship loan program.
  • Presents healthcare career information to various groups of school age children up to and including adult audiences.
  • Assists in the development and dissemination of job offer, rejection and other candidate communication material.
  • Works with the CNO and Director of Human Resources to develop operational initiatives in alignment with Human Resources and Nursing.
  • Works with the clinical leadership teams to identify priorities for recruitment. Consult with CNO and Director of Human Resources to design strategies to fill critical positions.
  • Identifies and attends state, regional, or national nursing recruitment events, including multi-generational career fairs, open interview days, and university/college recruiting, as appropriate.
  • Maintains effective communication with Department Directors, Nurse Managers, and applicants throughout the recruitment process. Pre-screen job candidates, schedule and facilitate nursing interviews with the applicable Nurse Manager or Director.
  • Works with DCH marketing department to place advertisements in local newspapers, professional publications, or recruitment websites (after consultation with CNO, HR, and Marketing) for recruitment purposes.
  • Maintains positive, supportive and enthusiastic communication and dialogue with prospective applicants, nursing students, DCH staff and the public at large.
  • Uses data and feedback from nursing applicants selected for hire to improve the hiring experience.
  • Serves as dedicated liaison for Nursing Division.
  • Sources applicants through various methods including advertising, recruiters, job sites, career fairs
  • Conducts exit interviews for the Nursing Division.

    • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
    • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Registered Nurse with current Alabama or Compact State license
    • BSN required or must complete Bachelors Program in relevant to role within 2 years.
    • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in an administrative, education, or leadership role in Nursing preferred
    • Proven organizational skills and customer service skills required.
    • Must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
    • General human resources process knowledge preferred.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills preferred.
    • Critical thinking skills and ability to work independently preferred.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Must have reliable transportation sources for recruitment travel events, etc.
    • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English
