Athens Area Homeless Shelter, founded in 1986 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides collaborative, comprehensive services to homeless individuals and families working toward sustainable independence. AAHS has a specific focus on serving homeless families within the greater Athens area through our multiple programs which provide emergency shelter, education-based transitional shelter, family enrichment and rapid rehousing. The AAHS Board of Directors is seeking an energetic, qualified and flexible leader with a background in direct service who is comfortable supervising a staff of 15-20. Most important is a deep dedication to our vision that all children deserve safe and stable housing.

Hours: Full-time salaried, nonexempt
Compensation: $70,000 per year, health, dental and vision insurance, IRA match up to 3%, generous PTO with included three-month sabbatical every five years

Major Functions/Accountabilities:
1. Program and Service Delivery – Oversees evolving design, promotion, delivery and quality of programs and services to homeless families. Develops and maintains organizational capacity to sustain and improve program and service delivery
2. Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management – In collaboration with the board treasurer and bookkeeper, recommends yearly budget for Board approval; prudently manages organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
3. Human Resource Management -- Effectively manages and continually develops the staff and volunteer resources essential to the pursuit of the organization’s mission and program all in accordance with the organization’s personnel policies and procedures which fully conform to current laws and regulations.
4. Community and Public Relations -- Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive images to relevant stakeholders, including community residents, public- and private-sector leaders, potential donors and potential clients.
5. Revenue and Fundraising (nonprofit-specific) -- Oversees revenue planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating grant records and documentation. Increasingly diversifies the funding base to ensure the organization’s continuing ability to provide quality shelter, housing and supportive services to its client population.
6. Board Support – Works closely with the Board President and Executive Committee to support Board operations by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff, and supporting Board's fulfillment of its duties in conformance with its bylaws
Specific Responsibilities:
The executive director will continue to develop and maintain organizational structure essential to sustaining emergency shelter, transitional shelter, rapid rehousing and supportive programming, including:
The executive director shall have primary responsibility for development of program plans for each of the organization’s programs, with approval by the board of directors.
The executive director shall coordinate the implementation of each of the aforesaid plans and shall be responsible for the implementation of these plans insofar as they require the direction of staff resources.
The executive director shall be responsible for the direct supervision of all program staff and through them the overall supervision of the organization’s staff and volunteers.
The executive director shall prepare an annual budget with the board of directors, and with the Treasurer shall ensure that an annual financial audit is performed in compliance with Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133.
The executive director shall prepare a report on the organization’s financial condition with the treasurers review and approval, for each meeting of the board of directors
The executive director shall provide a general report on the operations of the organization at each meeting of the board of directors.
The executive director shall ensure operational compliance of the organization with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing its activities as an organization engaged in sheltering and housing homeless families.
