Professor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     JOB DESCRIPTION

     

     

    POSITION:     Special Education Teacher 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. NH teacher certification in General Special Education or proof of eligibility for NH certification
    2. Bachelor’s degree or higher
    3. Experience preferred but not required

     

    REPORTS TO:            Building Principal

     

    JOB GOAL:                 To provide all students with a quality educational program in which they reach their full potential

     

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Plan and prepare instruction based upon District curriculum and student needs
    2. Demonstrate knowledge of all content areas and child development
    3. Provide instruction in all core academic areas in assigned grade (literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies) following district curriculum, setting high and attainable outcomes
    4. Design and use assessment data to monitor progress of all students towards established standards, maintaining accurate records
    5. Create an environment of respect and rapport that establishes a culture of learning
    6. Manage classroom procedures and student behavior
    7. Communicate with students and their families
    8. Collaborate with other educators within the school and across the District
    9. Implement 504 and IEP accommodations and modifications
    10. Actively participate within the professional community, growing professionally, reflecting on teaching and demonstrating professionalism
    11. Follow District policies and procedures
    12. Complete other duties as assigned by the principal

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Conway Education Association (CEA) contract

     

    WORK YEAR: 187 day / school year position

     

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Conway School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.  The principal and/or administrative designee will be the evaluator.
