Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling

    Starting Date:

    August 2024

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1) Earned doctoral degree in rehabilitation counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program OR a doctoral degree in a closely related discipline with previous full-time employment as a faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year prior to July 1, 2013.  Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (08/19/2024)

    2) Evidence of successful teaching at the university student level.

    3) Certified as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).

    4) Commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first-generation students to promote diversity, social justice, equity, and inclusion in professional, organizational, and/or clinical work.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1) Documented record of research, scholarly, and/or creative activity in diversity, social justice, equity, and inclusion as they relate to Rehabilitation Counseling, including evidence of peer-reviewed publications.

    2) Experience or knowledge of CACREP standards, program design/implementation, and accreditation.

    3) Specific content expertise in one or more of the following areas: (a) ethical, legal professional issues in counseling, (b) diagnosis and treatment in rehabilitation counseling, (c) psychopharmacology, (d) college counseling and student affairs, (e) couples and family counseling, (f) individual and group counseling, (g) employment and career development, (h) supervised practicum and internship, and (i) counseling theories, case management, and/or introductory counseling skills.

    4) Licensed Mental Health or Clinical Professional Counselor, or eligible for California licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.

    Duties:

    The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community.  These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

     

    Specific duties include teaching graduate students in the M.S. in Counseling option in rehabilitation counseling; supervising practicum and internship placements; providing academic and career advisement to students; and participating in programmatic efforts to maintain CACREP accreditation as well as seeking external funding.

    Salary:

    Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (anticipated hiring range: $82,812 - $86,208 annually).

Preparation is offered for teachers, counselors, school psychologists, and specialists in education, counseling, rehabilitation, and related services.

The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies by an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
