The Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Department of Physics is seeking candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of experimental biophysics. The search is part of a long-term interest in expanding the scope of biophysics within the Physics Department at CWRU, and builds on a variety of existing research efforts in the department: theoretical and experimental biophysics (protein dynamics, single-molecule microscopy, modeling of biological systems from the cellular scale to the evolution of populations), experimental soft condensed matter (biosensing, nanotechnologies for cancer therapy), and medical physics (MRI and magnetic nanoparticle imaging).

The successful candidate will complement these initiatives, and take advantage of the numerous collaborative opportunities available both on campus and in the extensive local biomedical research environment (the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and a variety of startups). The Physics Department is also one of the leaders in a new Interschool Quantitative Biosciences Program, a certificate for graduate students which fosters interdisciplinary training and engagement across the natural sciences, medicine, and engineering.

We encourage applications from candidates working at any level of biological organization, from single molecules to whole populations. Possible topics include (but are not limited to): biomolecule dynamics and interactions, biological condensates, cytoskeletal mechanics, cell adhesion and tissue organization, epigenetics, systems biology, microbial and cancer evolution. Further, candidates with strengths in developing novel experimental methods or designing experiments that use cutting-edge instrumentation to understand biophysical dynamics will be viewed favorably.

    Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent in physics or a closely related field. They should demonstrate the potential to conduct a program of innovative and funded research, be an effective teacher, and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students.
