    An Overview of the Role
    The adjunct professor not only serves as a teacher, but as a mentor, advocate, and role model demonstrating utmost professionalism and integrity and advising students on academic success strategies, career options, and graduation requirements. In that role, they embrace the Mission Statement of TCC's nursing program:

    "To produce innovative Associate Degree nurses who provide safe quality care to diverse populations, invest in continued professional learning to maintain excellence, and inspire others in the profession of nursing. The nursing faculty will accomplish this through evidenced based nursing education in an environment that promotes caring, diversity, ethics, excellence, holism, integrity and patient centered care."

    Position Summary
    The professor is a professional educator and registered nurse who teaches in the clinical, simulation or lab setting. They would be responsible for teaching nursing curriculum to assigned student groups using TCC's concept-based curriculum and evidence-based teaching practices within the framework of the nursing program's stated mission.

    Essential Functions

    The adjunct Professor is responsible for instruction, supervising and evaluating nursing students in the educational environment within the framework of the program's six themes:

    • Teamwork and Collaboration
    • Patient-Centered Care
    • Clinical Judgment/Evidence-Based Practice
    • Participate in College and Nursing program assessment processes
    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Holds a master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, OR a baccalaureate degree in nursing, with a master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
    • Has a minimum of two years of professional experience in the practice of nursing.
    • Has current clinical experience of at least two years in the clinical subject area assigned to teach.
    • The Professor will be an expert nurse generalist and have expertise in one of the following areas: medical-surgical, maternal-child, pediatrics, mental health nursing, critical care or long term care.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Successful adult teaching experience in any disciple that shows knowledge and skills related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, student evaluation, and a willingness to hone those skills the first year of teaching.
    • Meets NLN Nurse Educator Nurse Competencies
    Conditions of Employment
    • Holds a current unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington, or eligible for licensure in the state of Washington.
    • Pass background checks and drug screens as required by hospitals and clinics upon hire and annually as required.
    • Provide documentation that shows successful completion of immunizations as required by hospitals and clinics upon hire.
    • Complete new-hire orientation and all pre-teaching assignments designed to prepare new faculty for successful completion of basic teaching duties.
    • Holds or obtains current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers by the first day of class.

    Terms of Employment
    This is a part time faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Part time faculty salary range is per credit hour starting at $909.33 to $1,240.16. Salary ranges are subject to any approved COLA's after initial placement. If applicable, Lab credit hours are paid at 50% the credit hour rate. Professional Services hours are paid at a flat rate of $44.00-$44.00 per hour. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with educational background and experience per the (Article 4.00 Academic Employee Compensation ). Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half-time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time. Members may 'stack' workloads between other qualifying colleges. A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach, to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options. Tacoma Community College offers offers one personal leave day per academic year if the PTF have been awarded a multi-quarter appointment. Sick leave is awarded every quarter based on the full-time equivalent teaching percent. If eligibility requirements are met, a comprehensive health care benefits package for you and your dependents includes medical, dental and vision insurance. Life and long- term disability insurance plans reduced tuition for the employee; and retirement benefits are also provided. For more information, please visit our employment page/employment benefits: A collective bargaining agreement exist and membership in the TCC Federation of Teachers or payment of a service fee and is available anytime upon hire. Evening and off campus assignments may be a part of the instructional load. Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Degrees must be from accredited colleges or universities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and verified by National Student Clearinghouse. International degrees will be verified for U.S. equivalency.
