Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. We are currently seeking an assistant professor/associate professor level faculty position to staff our NICU Clinical Service Contract with the University of Maryland St Joseph Medical Center (UM-SJMC). The successful candidate will have faculty appointments in the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Maryland School of Medicine at academic levels to be determined by experience. The University of Maryland St Joseph Medical Center NICU has a Level III NICU, serving the children of Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region.

    UM SJMC located in Towson, MD.  is a 263-bed Catholic hospital with more than 700 physicians on the medical staff Numerous areas of specialization include cardiology, cancer, orthopedics, emergency care, obstetrics and gynecology, surgical services, diabetes, psychiatric services and wound healing.

    UMMS has more than 4,600 affiliated physicians provide primary and specialty care in more than 150 locations and at 13 hospitals.

    Job Description

    Position Highlights:

    • The candidate will have a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Maryland School of Medicine at the academic level commensurate with experience. 
    •  An essential component of the position will be the education of our departmental residents and NICU fellows.
    • Collaborative working environment and opportunity to partner with local Community Physicians
    • The Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP) services that provides
    • Referral to University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC)- Level IV NICU in Baltimore
    • Referral to UMMC PICU providing ECMO and post-cardiac surgery care
    • The largest NICU High-risk Follow Up Program in the state of Maryland Center for Advanced Fetal Care (CAFC) for medically complex fetus and mother. 
    • The Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP) services that provides ambulance and helicopter transportation from more than 30 hospitals in the region for critically ill infants.
    • Substance use in pregnancy (SUP) center of excellence and translational research
    • 24/7 in-house advanced practice providers
    • Level III NICU: expandable 20 bed capacity, located in Towson, MD
    • TeleHealth Support 24/7 from the UMMC Level IV NIC

    Qualifications

    • Medical degree or foreign equivalent.
    • Completion of Residency training in Pediatrics
    • Completion of Fellowship training in Neonatology
    • Maryland medical license or eligible for Maryland medical license.
    • Possesses and maintains current DEA or similar Narcotics and Controlled Substances Certification required.
    • Demonstrates meeting minimum CME requirements for licensure and board certification.
    • Demonstrates appropriate qualifications and experience to perform the duties required of this position.
    • The successful candidate should be BC/BE, with excellent teaching and clinical skills. In addition to clinical duties, neonatologists have an opportunity to participate in clinical and translational research and quality improvement projects.
