Professor - Foreign Languages teaches courses in the discipline area of foreign languages. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Foreign Languages provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Foreign Languages typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. In-Person ESOL Instructors (Hyde Park, Boston, MA)

    The Boston Community ESOL Center (BCEC) is seeking an interim lead instructor to teach English to community members with limited English proficiency in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston. This position is ideal for individuals interested in teaching while helping immigrant populations gain access to services and job opportunities.

    Classes currently meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00pm. Schedule can potentially be adjusted based on instructor and program availability. Total contact hours will total 2 hours per week for this program. The interim instructor will be paid up to $50 per 1-hour session. Additional programs may become available in the future.

    Bonus points for candidates with experience in teaching English, teaching adults, and/or teaching under-served communities.

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Creating weekly lesson plans for small classes
    • Developing interactive activities and using props and other supporting materials as necessary to enhance students' classroom experience
    • Actively engaging and interacting with students during classes and activities
    • Other responsibilities such as reporting attendance, assessing student progress, and conducting student placement interviews

    This position requires candidates with the following qualifications:

    • Experience or training in adult, community ESOL education
    • Experience with curriculum design
    • Ability to travel regularly to the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston
    • A proactive, caring, positive, and energetic personality

    In addition, ideal candidates possess the following qualities:

    • A proactive work ethic and professional demeanor
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • English fluency
    • Ability to work in a collaborative setting and willingness to apply feedback
    • Comfortable with teaching in small to medium size classroom environments
    • Ability to cater to a range of student skills, knowledge, ages and backgrounds
