Duties: Under general supervision, develop and deliver engaging and innovative theater arts courses, including but not limited to theater history, acting, beginning voice and movement, playwriting and technical theater. Perform related work including but not limited to developing teaching strategies, instructional materials and methods which 1) use computers in instruction where appropriate; 2) integrate instruction of appropriate thinking skills into course content; 3) use competency-based instruction; and 4) address the needs of community college students. Prepare and revise course outlines and objectives. Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the theater arts curriculum to ensure its relevance and alignment with industry standards and student needs.Create and assess student learning outcomes. Develop appropriate assessment instruments. Independently plan, organize and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments. Identify students’ learning needs and advise, evaluate and implement constructive responses to them. Participate in departmental faculty and administrative committees, community service, in-service training. Establish and maintain partnerships with local theaters, arts organizations, and community groups to enhance the theater arts program's visibility and opportunities for students.Develop and support programs in conjunction with the Leeward CC Theatre. May include non-credit and community outreach.Work with Leeward CC’s Early College Coordinator to develop, teach, and support dual credit classes and programs including summer bridge for 12th graders with area high school partners.Liaison with other instructional divisions to create cross-discipline opportunities.Serve as a mentor and resource for students interested in pursuing careers in theater arts or related fields.Direct and/or produce theatrical events. Develop and maintain an approved program of professional self-development. May require teaching, and/or rehearsals, and/or performances during evening, weekend and holiday hours, and at off-campus sites. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Drama and/or Theatre; orMaster recognition by Drama and Theatre Community and 10 years of related work experience.Minimum qualifications must be from a regionally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. Desirable Qualifications: Community College teaching experience in acting for theatre and film, directing, beginning voice and movement, technical theater and playwriting. Knowledge of and ability to integrate instructional technology in the classroom and to use such technology to offer curriculum and student learning through diverse delivery modes (for example, on-line delivery or cable delivery). Familiarity with goals and objectives of the community college philosophy. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and engage in departmental and college-wide initiatives.Experience working with non-traditional students.Experience in course and curriculum development.Ability to employ writing assignments and integrated teaching of appropriate thinking skills as part of course instruction.
