As part of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Colorado State University Pueblo, Media & Entertainment exists to prepare students to be effective and experienced content creators, producers, and media professionals, competitively positioned for careers in media and entertainment and related industries. Our department blends practice, technology, theory, and critical thinking to create dynamic, professional-level media through active and engaging pedagogical practices. SOCO Student Media offers our students opportunities to engage in professional, real-world converged media experiences through our student media entities.

    Our program offers a certificate, minor, and major in Media & Entertainment. Students enrolled in the major have a choice of six concentrations:
    • Multimedia Journalism and Storytelling
    • Sports and eSports Media
    • Strategic Communication (communication or design focus)
    • Production (film/video or sound/audio focus)
    • Media, Entertainment, & Arts Management
    • Spanish-Language Media & Entertainment (collaboration with English & World Languages)

    Our new colleague will join us in expanding and further developing our Strategic Communication concentration. An ideal candidate will have a combination of professional and educational experience, multimedia skills, a desire for experiential hands-on teaching, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for teaching our diverse student body.

    Responsibilities of our new colleague include, but are not limited to, teaching public relations, branding and advertising, crisis communications, social media integration and analytics, student media practicum, or other media/entertainment courses within the Media & Entertainment department and school/college; acting as faculty advisor and mentor within student media and our department; contributing to student success through advising, supporting, and mentoring undergraduate majors and students; collaborating with department and college-level teams to further implement innovative academic programs and promote university service and community engagement; actively participating in recruiting, retention, and alumni events. Applicants must be committed to all aspects of diversity in learning, discovery, and engagement as well as to contributing to the success of Media & Entertainment through frequent positive collaboration with faculty colleagues, dissemination of scholarly works, and service to the university and profession.

    Primary Duties
    Teaching / Librarianship:
    Serves Media & Entertainment through excellence in teaching and mentorship and provides leadership in the expansion of the Strategic Communication concentration.

    Scholarly & Creative Activities: 
    Establishes and maintains a developing record of scholarship commensurate with the level of rank, and a clear indication of the potential to achieve nationally and internationally recognized standards of excellence.

    Service: 
    Includes but is not limited to:
    • Contributes to student success through advising, support and mentoring undergraduate majors and students. Schedules office hours to meet advising responsibilities and encourage improved student performance in classes. Assists students in setting academic goals, maintaining a record of advisement, and provides referrals to appropriate student services.
    • Attends and takes part in meetings of the associated departments, school, college, and university. Serves if elected or appointed with their consent, to university boards or estate committees. Facilitates academic community cooperation. Attends campus meetings and University functions including Commencement.
    • Actively engages in curriculum development and revision, assessment, and student recruitment events. Participates and contributes to departmental/college policies.
    Salary Range
    $59,000 - $62,000Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in public relations, strategic communication, communication, media, or related field.
    • Published and/or professional works in strategic communications or related area.
    • Understanding of industry standards across a variety of strategic communication multimedia content (print, digital/online, social, audio/visual, live events, etc.).
    • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse populations and learners.
    • Digital portfolio demonstrating professional and/or academic work in the field of strategic communications (samples of student works preferred).
    • Experience with design elements and Adobe software.
    • Experience with social media strategies (planning, integration, analysis).
    • Teaching or instructional experience.
    • Demonstrated experience with media writing for public relations, advertising, broadcast, or journalism.
    • Experience in a position requiring work with multimedia production technology and processes.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Terminal degree in public relations, strategic communication, communication, media, or related field with industry experience.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with media writing for public relations, advertising, broadcast, and journalism. 
    • Continuous record of scholarly activity in strategic communications.
    • Strong professional sensibilities in creating effective content.
    • Advanced proficiency in Spanish.
    • Experience working with student media or student-led productions.
    • Experience recruiting students.
    • Experience with health-related communication.
    • Effective teaching or instructional experience.
    • Expertise with integrating design elements and Adobe products into strategic communication messages/practices.
    • Experience with a variety of media technologies/ facilities and standards, with demonstrated ability to integrate technology into strategic communication content. 
    • Professional experience working on significant projects or within public relations, advertising, or related industries.
    • Experience with social media strategies (planning, integration, analysis).
    • Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations
