Professor - Chemistry teaches courses in the discipline area of chemistry. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Chemistry provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Chemistry typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     The Academy is seeking a full time Science instructor to work with the Principal for Academic Affairs and Science Department colleagues. This educator will support and integrate the values of St. Teresa’s Academy and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet into the daily work and curriculum, igniting a passion for science, rigor, and excellence.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create lesson plans, prepare classroom activities, organize teaching materials, evaluate student performance, maintain classroom records, meet with parents, teachers and other professionals, and participate in campus events
    • Prepare and deliver instruction and supervise laboratory work; may include college dual credit courses and/or advanced placement courses pending certification
    • Serve as a member of the Science Department and attend departmental meetings
    • Support the school’s mission and the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent required
    • Certification to teach Chemistry completed or in process
    • Certification to teach Physics completed or willing to achieve
    • Experience teaching dual credit preferred
    • Physics and chemistry experience required
    • Previous Secondary teaching experience preferred
    • A passion for science and advanced placement instruction
    • An understanding of best practices in education
    • A demonstrated passion for inspiring young women through excellent instruction
    • Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum
    • Collaborative spirit in developing cross-curricular experiences for students
    • Flexibility, optimism, creativity, high expectations, and an emphasis on student-centered learning
    • Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
    • Proven organizational skills
    • Understanding of the Catholic faith, single-sex schools, and the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet preferred
