WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Medicinal Chemistry to leverage Beharra’s platform to build a robust drug discovery pipeline.  The role involves working closely with peers in biology, DMPK and proteomics to forge a multidisciplinary approach to target selection and preclinical development.  The ideal candidate will have a track record of leading programs and delivering high quality development candidates.  Experience working with SBDD strategies and programs in the oncology and immunology therapeutic areas is a plus.  This role requires at least 90% of time on-site to interact with laboratory-based scientists. 

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Building programs and leading medicinal chemistry efforts from early-stage discovery programs to development candidates
• Managing and delivering portfolio objectives as a project leader and/or as a supervisor of other project leaders
• Managing and mentoring a team of chemists, both internal and external
• Participating on the Management Team to help develop a broader scientific strategy for the company
• Communicating results and strategies to the Scientific Leadership Team, Scientific Founders and Board of Directors

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TEAM

• A PhD in chemistry with at least 10 years of relevant experience in drug discovery
• Experience leading programs from early discovery to advanced development candidates
• Ability to lead autonomous teams and take ownership of drug discovery decisions
• Expert knowledge of modern synthetic and medicinal chemistry with the ability to successfully impact multiple projects
• Experience supervising multiple direct reports and a track record of managing performance, developing talent, and creating a strong medicinal chemistry team
• Demonstrated influence, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to succeed within a matrix environment
• Strong track record of scientific contributions including peer reviewed first-author publications, patent applications, and presentations at major national meetings
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
