Job Description/General Function
Health & Well-Being Team Personal Trainers are responsible for aiding participants in achieving their well-being goals in a group or individual settings as indicated by the Healthy Living Coordinator. Duties may include scheduling appointments and following up with clients. Superb relationship skills, attention to detail, and follow-through are required. Basic computer skills are also necessary.
Responsibilities
- Design safe and effective 30 minute to 1-hour personal training programs for individual clients or small groups, adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities
- Instruct members in the strength training principles, training procedures, and exercise techniques
- Teach members the proper and preferred use of all the strength training equipment
- Accurately list member information in the Y tracking system
- Inform members of new information regarding strength training safety and effectiveness
- Stay within the scope of practice with all exercise and nutrition recommendations
- Provide individual supervision and reinforcement during members’ training sessions
- Help maintain a neat, clean, and pleasant environment in the Wellness Center
- Stay current on fitness concepts and ideas
- Attend continuing education courses and mandatory training
- Monitor personal training certification expiration date
- Work effectively in a team environment and independently
- Assists in member data collection
- Promote volunteer recruitment and retention
- Maintain general knowledge of all YMCA programs, policies, and events
- Acquire and maintain certifications as directed
- Comply with YMCA code of conduct and ethics policies
- Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as required and completes all required online trainings which includes child abuse prevention training within 7 days of hire
- Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youths.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Ability to relate to and engage with health seekers
- ACE or equivalent Personal Training Certificate nationally recognized
- Computer skills, including working with Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, program and operating software, and internet applications
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
- Ability to relate well and communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, in all circumstances
- Pass a comprehensive background check
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a current CPR and First-Aid certification or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire
Additional Expectations & Duties
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations in accordance to mandated reporting requirements
- Responsible for general housekeeping tasks to ensure the workspace is always clean
- Submits hours worked accurately on electronic timecard, within timelines for supervisor approval
- Passion for high standards and believes in the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility
- Flexible schedule needed as on occasion may need to work mornings, evenings, and/or weekends
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

- Driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards, driver records request will be submitted
Working Conditions
Environment
Inside, Wellness Center setting, small group or individual personal training sessions. Possible off site locations as well
