General Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the Production Manager, these highly visible supervisory positions will manage all functions of the printing, slitting, and pre-press departments in a specialty rotogravure printing company. This individual will be responsible to work with other supervisors, working leads, press operators and assistants with a main focus on improvement in throughput, waste elimination, and cost reduction to ensure customer quality specifications and delivery schedules are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and oversee employees in the production of rotogravure printing and converting to ensure quality products are produced that conforms to customer demands, specifications and delivery schedules. 
• Responsible for the enforcement of company rules to include OSHA safety and plant rules; GMP guidelines, and ISO procedures for production employees. Monitor rewards and disciplinary issues. 
• Evaluate and utilize work crews to equipment needs to improve MR efficiencies, reduce waste, and ensure daily inspections of production areas to evaluate conditions; identify and correct safety and housekeeping issues. 
• Ensure quality print of products, consistent with customer specifications, color standards, and print register; quality checks and density/color readings (DE) are performed at required intervals
• Focus on problem solving as issues arise with cylinders, ink, and substrates and identify opportunities to decrease MR time. 
• Complete shift production reports and logs to include; production reports, safety and housekeeping issues, equipment speeds, materials used and MR explanations or issues. 
• Investigate and report all incidents; work related injuries, near misses, press fires, and complete related forms.
• Coordinate employee training; departmental and cross training on new and existing equipment and all job procedures. 
• Communicate any information from one shift to next include notes, quality samples, and any items or issues that may require follow-up. 
• Instrumental in leading, implementing, and sustaining Lean Manufacturing process improvement.
• Work with union stewards/officers and employees to eliminate employee issues and grievances.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities Required:

• Ability to communicate with all levels of management, customers, vendors and production employees. 
• Proficient in writing and reading comprehension of job specifications and work instructions as well as basic mathematics. 
• Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously. 
• Ability to adhere to schedules, to crew press teams according to production demands 
• Training and development skills are essential. 
• Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:
• Proficiency with PC and Microsoft software programs Word/Excel/Gmail. Familiar with ERP manufacturing business software experience is a plus. 

Effort / Working Environment:

• Work is performed primarily in a production facility in areas near operating equipment and chemical usage; in accordance with our safety program, all employees receive informative training on chemicals and equipment used within the plant. Atmosphere may contain fumes, odors, dust, etc. 
• Noise levels fluctuate according to proximity of operating equipment. Medium work requires exerting up to 80lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Visual acuity is required to distinguish color shades, to approve ink color, to verify registration and to spot product flaws; color perception is essential. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

College degree is preferred or equivalent work experience of 5 (five) years of supervisory responsibilities/duties or equivalent education and/or training. Must be able/willing to work flexible work schedules to accommodate 24 hour production operations.
