Position Summary

The Production Manager will oversee the production process and coordinate all activities to ensure enough resources are available. This role will represent the manufacturing department within Senior Staff. The ideal candidate will lead productivity and cost-reduction efforts with a philosophy of continuous improvement and hands-on involvement. Your primary goals are product quality, cost, and delivery. You will be responsible for directing and assisting manufacturing teams in ensuring the efficient operation of the facility. Drive and instill a culture that embraces quality, safety, and lean manufacturing philosophy. Drive operations to contribute to our profitability by reducing total costs and enhancing processes that will contribute to overall improvement. Maintain operational excellence, delivering exceptional customer on-time delivery and minimal past-due customer order backlog. Direct and supervise the activities of the department. 10 years of related experience and training in the aerospace industry preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with support functions, including Quality, HR, Finance, Sales, and Engineering/R&D.
• Develop and manage UPC’s manufacturing annual Capital budget plan
• Direct and manage all Operations functions, including Fabrication, Machining, Assembly, Facilities/Maintenance, and EH&S.
• Ensure department procedures and employee behaviors comply with all federal, state, local, and corporate regulations.
• Ensure operation under all contractual requirements, emphasizing the following FAR/DFAR and flow-down requirements.
• Ensure appropriate performance metrics and visual management systems drive performance and provide accurate and useful information.
• Establish appropriate manufacturing goals within the context of the UPC strategy and ensure their attainment to support top-level objectives.
• Execute the required production plans to ensure UPC achieves sales and EBITDA goals.
• Lead the manufacturing department in day-to-day activities while constructing and managing mid and long-term strategic plans.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels to allow the company to meet on-time delivery targets.
• Maintain the highest ethical standards.
• Manage the direct and indirect headcount resources, including hiring, firing, performance reviews, and employee development.
• Prepare instructions regarding business systems and procedures for each functional group.
• Provide advice and counsel on operational issues to the General Manager and Senior Staff
• Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to all department employees
• Provide mentoring, development plans, and training to subordinates and develop successors for this position
• Review expenditure requests for accuracy, relevance, and ROI
• Support requests for quotes/requests for proposals and purchase orders as required

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to relate well to individuals at all levels of the organization.

Education and Computer Knowledge

• A four-year technical or bachelor’s degree in engineering or business. At least five years in production control, inventory, stock room, or related work in manufacturing, as well as at least five years of supervisory experience.
• 10 years of supervisory/management experience in aerospace, tight tolerance machining industry, or equivalent training/experience
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of MRP System (SAP preferred)
• Manufacturing software, Excel Spreadsheet software, and Word (Microsoft Office) Word Processing software.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments
• Walking, standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, is required
• Work safely under functional guidelines such as PPE and equipment operation
• May be exposed to variable noise levels, fumes, hazardous chemicals, or airborne particles
