Production Control Manager manages the day-to-day tactical production control planning, scheduling, flow of materials, and monitoring to achieve goals and objectives for delivery dates, output quality, volume, cost, and optimization. Oversees scheduling and the development of methods to allocate and control resources and materials effectively.   • Position Summary

    Directs and oversees the capacity planning function of the organization to promote organizational effectiveness. Inspects, audits, and suggests changes to plant capacity measures to ensure alignment with production schedule. Directs and oversees the organization's corporate scheduling in accordance with management’s strategic and long-range goals. Responsible for overseeing all activities related to Scheduling and Material Planning in an efficient and cost effective manner. Responsible for the oversight and effectiveness of shipping, Receiving and Logistics. Accountable for addressing responsibilities in the best interest of the organization from a short-term and long-term perspective


    Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following
    :

    • Reviews the customer requests for quotes and verifies time availability within the production schedule. Recommends a course of action to either give the customer the order as it was requested or to give the earliest possible date by which the order could be manufactured with current resources;
    • Develops and implements master production schedule, production plans and releases all production work orders;
    • Monitors/Audits the scheduling system for traceability, flow of work and efficiency of system;
    • Oversees the proper distribution and usage of scheduling reports and dispatch lists;
    • Administers lot sizing conventions to ensure balancing between material throughput and inventory investment;
    • Implements various material strategies (make-to-stock, make-to-order) maximizing on-time customer performance and minimizing assets employed;
    • Oversees the shop floor controller and expediting functions;
    • Prepares and administers monthly, quarterly and yearly shipment projections;
    • Conducts regular Capacity Requirements Analysis and coordinates outsourcing plans ensuring on-time customer shipments;
    • In/outputs reporting, gaging the performance of manufacturing with the standard hour;
    • Maintains close working relationship with Production Operations ensuring accurate shop floor control and WIP integrity while meeting production and shipment goals;
    • Coordinates resolution to issues involving multi-functions that effect meeting customer requirements;
    • Develops both short and long-range improvement strategies;
    • Supplies entire company in the direction for the following areas:
    • Scorecards
    • Customer, Internal
    • Supplier
    • LTA Schedules
    • Network Automation in Planning & Scheduling
    • Making Data driven shipment projects Long Term
    • Oversees the entire scheduling department and directs how to schedule based on market and shipment projection data that has been analyzed and approved by upper management;
    • Communicates clearly with Sales and the customer;
    • Creates “what if scenarios” for estimating purposes and analyzes the corporate effect of the estimate to the company if rewarded;
    • Dispatches work centers in priority sequence by operation start date to support customer needs;
    • Interfaces with Sales to respond to customer inquiries and to communicate any delays that may impact required delivery schedules;
    • Schedules all jobs in data system and interfaces with Manufacturing Engineers as required to ensure that routers, methods and schedule dates are accurate and current;
    • Performs work center and resource capacity analysis to determine manpower requirements, bottlenecks and problem areas, and identify possible resolutions to work center overloads.
    • Writes simple processes, inputs router data, and generates work order folders;
    • Assists Quality Engineer and/or Manufacturing Engineer with process control projects by researching and collecting data, generating computerized control charts and incorporating them into the manufacturing plan;
    • Releases orders to manufacturing, verifying that all necessary materials, fixtures, tools, etc. are available. Interfaces with purchasing to determine shortage status;
    • Interfaces with Material Control ensuring that all material and hardware are issued and staged prior to operation start date;
    • Responsible for immediate inputting of process changes as identified by the Manufacturing Engineer into current router and to confirms the changes are incorporated into all future lots and methods;
    • Interfaces and coordinates with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality and all other departments to ensure adherence to schedule and to problem solve is necessary;
    • Monitors the movement of product in and out of the manufacturing and O.S.S.;
    • Regularly prints priority dispatch lists and distributes to each work center; updates Active Job Board as orders proceed through the department;
    • Conducts daily production meetings to communicate the schedule to manufacturing and to identify and resolve issues as they occur;
    • Determines the impact of discrepancy notices affecting production lots and takes appropriate action to resolve. Updates data system upon final disposition;
    • Maintains master files in data system, including work centers, operation codes and production calendars;
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Supervisory Responsibilities
    :


    Directly supervises all employees within the Production Control/Inventory Control/Material Control department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


    Skills and Experience
    :


    • High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; or seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • CPIM, APICS certification is preferred.
    • Five (5) years formal training or experience in traffic and material control systems.
    • Exhibits strong communication skills (both written and verbal) so as to work in a team environment.
    • Excellent analytical ability.
    • Ability to understand complex flow of materials and processes and ability to interface with all departments and/or customers.
    • Need to have the ability to motivate others.
    • Two (2) to four (4) years experience as a Production and Inventory Control Manager.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing control systems a plus.
