Produce Clerk is responsible for assisting customers in the produce department of a grocery store. Answers questions and helps patrons find requested produce items. Being a Produce Clerk prepares items for display, ensures that display cases are adequately stocked and ensures freshness of produce. Handles produce items in a safe manner and ensures that the department is always clean and neat. Additionally, Produce Clerk may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Produce Clerk may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Responsibilities & Duties:
Customer Service
Sell, select, cut, wrap, or package the produce
Inventory control
Refresh and rotate salad bar and all areas of Produce Department
Water and maintain plant sets in the department as well as in front of the store
Maintain clean and organized Produce Department
Use various Produce Dept & cleaning equipment, bailer, pallet jacks and forklifts in compliance with company safety policy
Understand and practice store safety rules
Understand and operate various equipment
Change signs, light bulbs, shelf signs/tags and price markers on the case or shelf display
Communicate with the department manager on problems, recommendation for change and merchandising ideas.
Prepare, package and label products
Perform any other miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Produce Manager
Required Education / Experience:
Minimum education requirement is a high school degree
Ability to effectively communicate
Basic mathematical skills required (add, subtract, multiply, and divide)
Experience, understanding, and knowledge of operations in a food service business/industry
Problem-solving skills
Basic reading and writing ability
