  • Position Summary

    Summit Body has served the commercial truck and transportation industry in the Pacific Northwest for over 35 years building and upfitting dry vans, flatbeds and refrigerated vans. In 2021, Summit acquired a Seattle-area service center, which repairs and refinishes all makes and models of medium, heavy duty, specialty, and fleet vehicles.

    Our Warehouse/Inventory Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team that organizes, coordinates, and manages all inbound/outbound products and materials, accuracy of inventory counts, and quality of goods received required for the company’s operations. The Warehouse/Inventory Supervisor is responsible for directing the activities of material handling team members providing direction and leadership toward the attainment of departmental metrics. Working closely with the Purchasing department, the Warehouse/Inventory Supervisor assists with the organization of the warehouse and yard, along with inventory levels required for Summit to meet its production without interruptions, delays and last minute changes. This position is also responsible for supporting the Operations team in solving problems with sustainable solutions to ensure smooth and efficient production. This is a critical role to help production meet the growth objectives and ensure that materials never impede company progress.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Manage receiving process of incoming products and material, may require coordinating all forms of freight, both inbound and outbound, via various modes of transportation along with drive-away services.
    • Document any variances in inventory received versus ordered and ensure the variances are acknowledged properly by department leadership.
    • Monitor and manage intercompany transfers.
    • Conducting cycle counts and month-end counts to identify and conduct a root cause analysis to correct related to inventory accuracy and material transactions.
    • Help coordinate, under the direction of department leadership, bi-annual physical inventory.
    • Oversee material inventory levels to ensure proper safety stock levels are maintained.
    • Improve methods and processes to improve productivity, reduce costs and improve quality.
    • Supervise the activities of material handling team in the performance of their jobs – driving to achieve department goals.
    • Investigate and resolve material flow movement issues, inventory accuracy, and material storage issues always using lean methodologies like root cause/corrective action and the 5 Why’s.
    • Monitor potential and current “hot” shortages taking action to eliminate downtime.
    • Communicate with planners and other supervisors to ensure material is available when required for use.
    • Monitor build requirements and ensure that material is moved to the production areas in a timely manner.
    • Maintain bin locations of all materials to ensure that production always has everything needed for daily production and update the ERP system when bins are stocked with additional goods.
    • Continually monitor safety issues and propose solutions to eliminate potential hazards and represent the Materials Team on the Safety Committee.
    • Develop employees - through formal / informal training, coaching, one-on-one interaction, cross-training, etc.
    • Ensure every job function or task is adequately trained for and covered by more than one associate, and to give employees the opportunity to expand their skills.
    • Work with other associates, supervisors, and departments to drive continuous improvement activity to improve safety, quality, lead-time, on-time delivery, inventory, and labor productivity.
    • Complete performance reviews on direct reports and provide input to other supervisors and managers regarding associates throughout the organization.
    • Assist the Purchasing Department with other various tasks as requested.

    Qualifications

    • Two-year degree or equivalent experience in Supply Chain or Logistics
    • At least 2 years of inventory control experience required
    • Must have exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Requires flexibility, confidentiality, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail
    • Proven ability to work professionally and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
    • Microsoft Office suite computer experience
    • Familiarity with MRP systems use and maintenance
    • Familiarity with Lean principles such as 5S, Kanban, etc.
    • Pre-employment drug test

    Work Environment

    This position is varied office/desk oriented with intermittent physical shop/yard work. Office work includes working on a computer, using the phone, and attending meetings with the operations team. This position interacts routinely with floor activities and is also exposed to factory noise, forklift traffic, and occasional exposure to wet conditions, vibration, and fumes or airborne particles. On rare occasions there may be a need to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 lbs. Stooping, bending, twisting, climbing ladders and standing for periods of time may occasionally be required.

    Work Hours

    The normal workweek is 40-45 hours, with the expectation that the employee will flex their work hours as required in support of the local management team. The Warehouse/Inventory Supervisor is encouraged to be visible to all employees.
