Engineering Manager, Digital Systems Engineering
  • BAE Systems
  • Hill, UT FULL_TIME

  • Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an exceptional, Engineer Manager for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of Sentinel, the nation’s next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

Why BAE Systems? BAE Systems is the third largest defense contractor in the world known for our exceptional, mission-focused culture. The 800 BAE Systems employees and sub-contractors located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, are closely aligned to the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC). We support the Center in sustaining the existing LGM-30 Minuteman III (MMIII) weapon system and acquiring its replacement, LGM-35A Sentinel (formerly known as the Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD)). We are a uniquely-valued mission partner delivering daily technical excellence and innovative solutions to our government customer. BAE Systems has earned accolades as a “Top Workplace” in Utah based on employee feedback for five consecutive years, earning special distinction for providing a healthy work-life balance for our valued employees. We work very hard to ensure this is a great place to work!

Why Utah? You’ve got to see it to believe it! Utah is an amazing state with diverse geography, an eclectic culture and an exceptional quality of life. We are located north of Salt Lake City at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. The area offers an incredible range of outdoors pursuits across the seasons including hiking, climbing, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and world-class skiing at resorts that hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. The state is home to five amazing National Parks and an easy drive from two more—Teton National Park and Yellowstone, famously, the first national park in the world. The Salt Lake City area offers a vast array of cultural activities and businesses including multiple professional sports teams. It is a western states hub for exceptional, cutting-edge medical care with people traveling from across the region for a range of nationally renowned specialty care centers and doctors. The Salt Lake City International Airport is expanding and offers easy, direct access to just about anywhere you want to fly.

Why SENTINEL? The Sentinel Program is an enormous and highly complex “Mega-Project” modernizing the entire Minuteman III ICBM weapon system deployed over tens of thousands of square miles across five states. Without a doubt, Sentinel is one of the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment of hundreds of aging ICBM facilities to develop and deploy a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. The effort will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead. Sentinel is now beyond Milestone B, well on its way to Milestone C. The program enjoys broad, bi-partisan support at the national level. It is a long-term project -- the weapon system will deploy over a nine-year period beginning in approximately 2026, and remain operational through at least 2075. Sentinel is a career-defining program that will present unique and rewarding opportunities that simply are not available with smaller projects.

Tell me about this job. BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Engineer to implement and manage Sentinel’s Directorate-wide Digital Ecosystem Systems Engineering functions. The candidate will bring a strong willingness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment while possessing high energy, motivation and be comfortable tackling changing priorities. Duties include providing expert systems engineering advice and support to Sentinel Digital Ecosystem Branch leadership; modeling the Sentinel system requirements, functions, components, interfaces, and test cases; participating in systems engineering working groups; and providing support to programmatic and technical briefings, reports, and other related documentation. This team member will regularly engage with Government and ISC Digital Engineering teammates.

Candidate will integrate and execute Sentinel’s digital strategy baseline and will provide digital ecosystem solutions to the government SPO. Candidate will operate in an organizational culture that develops and challenges employees to achieve high performance in a fast-paced, high-morale workplace using streamlined engineering and management policies and procedures. This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to shape the development and deployment of the next generation intercontinental ballistic missile—the national security critical backbone of our nuclear deterrent capability.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing team within a large defense company known for its extraordinary, positive culture and mission focus. In this position, you will provide direct support to a national security-critical weapon system throughout engineering development, deployment, and sustainment. You will help shape the quality and impact of Risk, Issue, and Opportunity processes and deliverables and other Program Management-related products from across the directorate and functional areas; and you will help educate and equip the government customer to acquire, operate, and maintain an entire weapon system-of-systems. You will become a trusted mission partner to the innovative, digital engineering-driven Air Force organization that is responsible to design, build, test, transition, and sustain the worlds safest, most secure, and effective land-based nuclear deterrent, on-schedule. Do not miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Join an extraordinary company culture and the winning team to success this year and for years to come.
