Summary:  Develop, improve, and control manufacturing sorting processes and activities in accordance with quality requirements to maximize efficiencies and yield, while reducing costs and downtime.

Reports To:  Plant Manager

Responsibilities

• Ensuring maximum performance of sorting systems.
• Developing and optimizing sorting recipes.
• Optimization of the sorting systems / process by sampling and testing.
• Managing infeed and outfeed product quality to maximize throughput.
• Continuously monitor and evaluate process performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.
• Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for sorting processes and tools.
• Work over the phone with equipment manufacturers to identify, troubleshoot, and improve equipment and processes.
• Sample and analyze product to ensure quality and food safety requirements are met.

Special Skills/Training

• Ability to work in a team environment in a positive manner of respect, cooperation & flexibility.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, troubleshooting and x-ray technology preferred.
• Proficiency in computer programs, PC configuration, network structures.
• Good work ethic and ability to work independently.
• Contribute within a team environment leading to production improvements.
• Troubleshooting, and follow-up skills. Excellent technical problem-solving, Self-driven, pro-active and target oriented working style with a high willingness to perform.
• Detail oriented, organized, and reliable.
• Good math and analytical skills.
• Skilled in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English (without an interpreter).
• Knowledge in food processing and manufacturing is a plus.

Experience/Education

• PLC and automation knowledge.
• University degree in Electrical, electronic, control and automation or similar preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Must be willing to work weekends as necessary.
• Able to work at a desk for extended periods of time doing analytical work or preparing reports on a computer.
• Ability to travel (10%) for work.

Working Conditions

• Mostly inside an industrial food grade facility.
• Smocks and hairnets (beard net if necessary) are required within the facility.
• Occasional outside work is necessary.
• There is a moderate level of noise while the plant is in production.
