Additionally, Process Engineer requires a bachelor's degree of engineering. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.     Job Responsibilities and Duties:

    At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Process Control Engineer is responsible for the programming and system maintenance of PLC's, DCS and HMI's. This includes the ability to read, create, and understand P&ID's, loops, electrical diagrams, and schematics. The Process Control Engineer is responsible for calibration, control instrumentation and system maintenance of the process analysis equipment at the Concentrator. The position also provides support for all other surface and underground facilities if needed.


    The Process Control Engineer's primary responsibilities are:

    Operational Leadership:

    • Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture
    • Foster an inclusive environment for all employees that promotes teamwork and innovation, and actively seek feedback from the workforce for continuous maintenance improvements

    Safety and Environmental Compliance:

    • Ensure that Environmental Excellence is practiced throughout the facility
    • Engage in work area inspections and effective safety meetings

    Team Management:

    • Maintain standards and expectations for quality housekeeping requirements
    • Regularly review and monitor compliance with regulatory work systems and maintenance procedures

    Budget and Cost Control:

    • Maximize availability of all plants and equipment in line with company operating policies and procedures ensuring compliance with safety, environmental and certifying authority requirements
    • Develop and implement automated supervisory controls to optimize plant, reducing downtime and costs

    Technical Oversight:

    • Actively participate in weekly meetings, daily, and other long-term project planning and scheduling meetings
    • Collaborate with the Operations, Maintenance and other departments on equipment requirements and activities
    • Interface with managers, general supervisors, department heads, supervisors, and hourly May be required to work in tandem with the Electrical and Maintenance Departments to implement, troubleshoot and maintain electrical and process systems throughout the facility
    • Assisting with operational implementation of PLC&SCADA modifications
    • Assist with design and installation of new remote PLC control stations and equipment
    • Provide input and feedback on business improvement initiatives
    • Regularly review and monitor compliance with regulatory work systems and maintenance procedures

    Reporting and Documentation:

    • Monitor, program and maintain plant PLC control systems, consisting of multiple processors, and remote I/O racks
    • Manage an HMI system with a Windows Client/Server infrastructure and historian
    • Review specifications, I&C drawings, HMI screens, PLC programs, SCADA,
    • Build and maintain 1-line drawings for site infrastructure
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent leadership abilities, including ability to train and interact with hourly and salary employees, assist in conflict resolution, and encourage teamwork
    • Ability to analytically and rationally make decisions

    Demonstrable experience and skills include:


    • Working knowledge of industrial maintenance including safety (OSHA/MSHA Rules & Regulations), production, maintenance, economics, equipment, and environmental regulations
    • Experience with, and understanding of, health, safety, and environmental regulations
    • Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite to include Word and Excel) and understanding of CMMS systems
    • Ability to communicate with technical specialists and to interpret technical drawings and specification documents
    • Knowledge of maintenance procedures and functions in an industrial environment
    • Understanding of Ethernet I/P networking and control net
    • Perform root cause failure analysis on process equipment
    • Understanding of P&ID Plans and Industry Specifications
    • PLC programming using ladder logic, function block, and/or structured text
    • Understanding of company policies, procedures, and standards
    • Experience applying modern-day technology to improve reliability
    • Experience in executing safety and quality control systems
    • Experience in developing process control narratives
    • Experience in Controls systems support of Maintenance and Operations in an industrial environment

    Education & Experience

    • 5-10 years of experience in Electrical controls systems
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Field is advantageous
