The Lorain County Commissioners are accepting applications for the position of Youth
Employment Specialist within the Lorain County Workforce Development Agency.
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will work closely with youth and young adults between the age of 14 and 24 years old who are in need or job shadowing and/or work experience opportunities that will assist in moving them toward their educational and employment goals. The candidate will collaborate with area educators, community agencies and employers serving the needs of target population.
The successful candidate will utilize various career interest and aptitude tools to assess vocational skills and interests and will utilize the results to assist in creating an Individual
Opportunity Plan for the participants that will align with these interests; will monitor and document progress in assignments; will prepare and instruct job readiness and soft skill enhancement workshops to individuals participating in the program; will assist in review of participants job readiness skills, including resume development and enhancement of interviewing skills as needed.
Qualifications Required:
A Bachelor’s degree in social work, education or related field is preferred, or the equivalent combination of post-secondary education and related experience. Knowledge of federally funded programs, such as but not limited to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families is preferred. Excellent computer, oral and written skills (including public speaking) required.
Candidates must possess a valid Ohio vehicle operator’s license and maintain continuing eligibility for insurance coverage in order to apply for this position.
