o BA/BS/BSc in archaeology, anthropology, or related field with 5 years of professional experience archaeology

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Full-time; generally weekdays with the occasional need for weekend travel. Overtime may be available under specific circumstances. Flexibility in scheduling based on project parameters and staffing needs.

Responsibilities
The Field Archaeologist is responsible for carrying out all of the responsibilities of field investigations with minimal supervision or direction. Additionally, the Field Archaeologist provides support to the senior staff in a variety of field and office-based capacities. The Field Archaeologist is capable of independently conducting field investigations and directing field technicians. The Field Archaeologist will coordinate with the senior staff to schedule and conduct field work, transfer field data after field work, and aid in writing reports. The Field Archaeologist has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
· Leading field crews to conduct pedestrian transects and subsurface testing
· Navigating and identifying survey and testing locations using GPS and paper maps
· Developing field survey and testing strategies
· Able to problem solve in the field during survey and/or testing
· Mark project area for utility locates and use the 811 system to submit locate tickets
· Complete all necessary paperwork and upload field forms and notes
· Site recording, radial layout, and artifact photography
· Monitor construction under the direction of senior staff
· Conduct excavations in a known site under the direction of senior staff
· Conduct pre-field research on WISAARD, ICIRIS, and OARRA
· Report on pre-field research
· Report on Field Investigations including methods and results
· Compile out state specific site forms

Precision Services
This job posting is for a placement within the Precision Services department at Plateau CRM. Precision Services focuses on a variety of large-scale projects including, but not limited to, excavation and data recovery of known archaeological sites, linear projects, green energy facility surveys, cultural resource surveys, and airport improvement projects.
Qualified candidates will have completed a field school focusing on excavation in North American archaeology or have previous experience excavating within known archaeological sites. The qualified candidate will be able to assist in excavation projects and will be able to perform and/or assist with the following duties: identifying and recording features in-situ during excavation; collecting samples of in-situ organic materials for radiocarbon dating and paleobotanical analysis where appropriate; use of paper maps and GPS equipment to identify location of proposed excavation units; adjusting location of excavation units to better fit field conditions and record all necessary information to update maps post field; delineating 1x1 m or larger excavation units with a line level; recording unit level information on field forms; prepare in-field collection bags for transport to Plateau CRM office; and preparing profile drawings of unit site walls.
The qualified candidate will also assist in the production of reports for cultural resource surveys and excavation and alteration survey reports. This will include performing background research on state websites such as WISAARD, ICRIS, and Oregon SHPO, independent research on archaeological sites, describing methodologies, and concise summarization of field results. The qualified candidate may assist with permit writing and conducting research to apply for excavations at known archaeological sites. The qualified candidate may also assist with lab duties including processing (sorting, cleaning, identifying, labeling collection bags and tags, and cataloging) faunal or lithic collections.
Prior experience performing these duties will be considered a preferred qualification for applicants.

Physical Demands:

The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours per day), walk long distances (up to 12 miles per day), be able to screen sediment samples, and carry field supplies long distances. Candidates should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the day. Field work may include instances where hiking, climbing, scrambling, and navigating treacherous terrain is common. The employee is regularly required to use field equipment including, but not limited to shovels, pick axes, screens, tarps, GPS units, digital cameras, compasses, trowels, tape measures, buckets, and breaker bars.
