Precision Grinder operates precision grinding machines to assemble products and product parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications. Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of attachments and grinding machines for grinding angles, contours, lines, and spheres on to surfaces. Being a Precision Grinder requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager. The Precision Grinder works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Job Accountabilities
- Grind ironing rings to specified sizes
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, depth and angle of cut
- Maintains daily usage parts for production needs
- Measure, clean, grind, re-measure tooling to set up specs
- Uses a variety of gauges (e.g. inside and outside micrometers, bore gauge, comparator, etc.) to measure parts
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required
- Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as electronic height gauge, comparator and gauge blocks
- Visually inspects incoming tooling
- Works with supervisor and other trades to keep production lines in service
- Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair
Job Requirements- Ability use micrometers, measurement gauges and work in close tolerances
- Ability to read, communicate, & understand procedures in English.
- Read, understand, and follow blue print drawings and schematics.
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The associate may be required to sometimes sit, climb or balance. The associate may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position includes close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The associate is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures. The noise level is usually loud.
