  • As the R&D Scientist, you will be responsible for New Product Development, Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) for the ICL’s Phosphate Specialties Global Paints & Coatings business. Translate customer’s desired outcomes and product performance gaps into new products and solutions. Define critical tests to relate coating properties to end use performance criteria.

    • Use inorganic or organic synthesis to develop new paints and coatings (P&C) additives
    • Creative and out-of-the-box thinking of new product concepts e.g., Smart materials, self-healing
    • Demonstrable examples of scientific publications technical symposia presentations
    • Maintains an awareness of the competitive landscape, patent applications and peer-reviewed publications in paints & coatings
    • Writes reports and adheres to protocols to meet project deadlines, budget and commercial goals.
    • Executes synthesis activities from gram to kilogram scale with minimal supervision.
    • Create, present, and summarize scientific findings to a broad audience
    • Submit ideas to the B.I.G. (ICL’s ideation and innovation collaboration platform)
    • Keep neat and orderly notebooks containing a record of all work performed.
    • Maintain other records as necessary to support patent applications for innovative products
    • Maintain an orderly and safe laboratory space by adhering to all safety and training requirements

    What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role?
    • PhD (strongly preferred) or MS Degree in Chemistry or related field with 0-2 years industrial experience.
    • The successful candidate will have formulated solvent-based, water-based, or powder coatings and is adept at utilizing experimental designs and statistical tools to drive decision making.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in organic and inorganic chemistries used in P&C.
    • Demonstrated ability to use molecular structure-property relationships and materials response behaviors to problem-solve.
    • Ability to travel at 25% (conferences, trade shows, customer visits, meetings)
    • Strong oral and written communication as well as analytical proficiencies
    • Excellent written & oral communication skills to internal and external customers
    • Project management and experience with Stage-Gate process (Innova 365)
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including effectively interacting with all levels of the organization (Sales, Marketing, PMO, FEI, Procurement, EHS&S, Operations) and our P&C customers and distributors
    • Stay abreast of application technology innovations (AI/ML) and translate new technology and processes to commercialized products. (AI: Artificial Intelligence; ML: Machine Learning)
    • Knowledge of paint formulating, electrochemical impedance, and corrosion testing preferred.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    Salary Range:$67K - $100K/year

    Annual Bonus Target: 5%, subject to plan provisions.

    Travel: up to 25%
