The Portfolio Manager reviews the customer's goals and develops investment strategies that will attain and support those objectives with acceptable risk. Responsible for managing, evaluating, and monitoring key or complex investment portfolios comprised of bonds, securities, and equity funds in a banking environment. Being a Portfolio Manager monitors daily investment activities to be aware of market changes. Considers legal and tax impact of investment decisions. In addition, Portfolio Manager may manage a team of portfolio manages. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1. Being a Portfolio Manager gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Works with the relationship team to provide the service and solutions necessary to create exceptional customer experiences.
    • Identifies and reviews credit and financial information, including reporting services, credit bureaus and bank files for use by relationship team in the approval path in making lending decisions and managing relationships.
    • Assists in the gathering and managing of loan file / documentation materials in conjunction with others on the relationship team.
    • Prepares credit memos as assisted by Credit Analyst as needed as directed by RM for loan actions needed.
    • Is available to make credit memo presentations and answer questions or respond to senior management or other bank information requests relating to the status of loans, plans or activities of the relationship team as needed.
    • Partners with RM to review loan documents prepared for loan closings to ensure credit terms and accurately reflected to be consistent with loan approvals and loans are closed and booked as planned.
    • Joins RM in customer / prospect calls along with client site visits and collateral inspections as needed.
    • Interacts with clients, or other appropriate sources, in the collection of information on an ongoing basis for analysis and monitoring purposes.
    • Reviews collateral including accounts receivable, equipment, inventory reports and related Borrowing Base Certificates, watching for any developing problems and keeping RM and others informed.
    • Works with RM and Portfolio Administrator and Credit Analyst to monitor loan agreements (including borrowing bases) for covenant compliance and manage ongoing tracking / exceptions. 
    • Manages pipeline reporting for relationship team to make sure it is kept current and accurate for management oversight.
    • Participates in requesting and reviewing appraisals (as provided by Credit) and collateral valuations and the internal preparation of collateral valuations and financial summary schedules as needed. 
    • Assist with other duties as assigned. 

     

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    High level of analytical and operational ability and a thorough working knowledge of the entire banking process.

    Minimum level of preparation and training normally required by the job:

    A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, accounting, or equivalent job experience and / or equivalent course work in accounting, finance, etc. Demonstrated “apprentice” work, under the supervision of an experienced banker.

    Additional Experience Preferred:

    2 or more years as a Credit Analyst or related, applicable, experience. 

     

    As a bank employee, you are also responsible for following established policies and procedures related to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), OFAC, and the USA Patriot Act. This includes attending required training, reporting all suspicious activity to the BSA Compliance Officer and following policy / procedure as it pertains to your job responsibilities. Failure to follow established BSA /AML policies and procedures will result in disciplinary action that may include termination. In addition, each employee is to know Bank Policies and Procedures, as they pertain to their work area and ensure they follow and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
