Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising patrol officers and agents as assigned and maintaining the chain of command within the operations of the department. Responsible for developing training programs for department personnel, directing special units, preparing special reports or projects as assigned, receiving and reviewing reports from officers, and assigning personnel in accordance to specific needs. Being a Police Sergeant requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5-7 years of law enforcement experience. Typically reports to a chief of police, captain, or lieutenant. The Police Sergeant manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. The Police Sergeant position performs, supervises and coordinates the daily activities of assigned police officers on a patrol shift; performs all of the regular patrol duties associated with the job of Police Officer. Also performs a variety of responsible and complex technical criminal investigative duties; required to collect facts and determine circumstance relative to the clearing, prosecuting and closing of criminal cases occurring within the City of Cripple Creek.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Education and Experience requirements are: any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or general education degree, four consecutive years of police work; an associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college with course work in criminal justice or related fields is desirable. Patrol and/or investigative supervisory experience preferred.
