Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office is actively recruiting to create a pool of diverse candidates eligible for current and future Sergeant vacancies in our Corrections Division. These positions perform work in the care and custody of adults in custody in the Yamhill County Correctional Facility under the administration of the Corrections Division Captain and as part of the Corrections leadership.
Position serves as a shift supervisor/watch commander and directs and supervises deputies on an assigned shift, counsels and evaluates subordinate deputies, recommends and/or implements corrective action including discipline pursuant to Sheriff’s Office policy and the collective bargaining agreement, and other related duties such as floor duties, taking reports, etc., as may be required.
Responsibilities may include administrative and/or investigative responsibilities depending on assignment (e.g., Administrative Sergeant, Court Security Sergeant, Facility Operations Sergeant, etc.).
Requires work in a 24-hour per day, 7 day a week environment with shift rotation in 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts. May be required to work with rotating shift schedules including working day, swing, and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
This is a non-represented position. Incentive pay is available for education, certification, and bilingual speakers.
This position carries a 12-month probationary period.

Qualifications
Internal (Promotional) Candidates: Current employment in good standing as a Sworn Law Enforcement Officer and a minimum of five (5) years' progressively responsible experience as a Sworn Law Enforcement Officer. Must not have been subject to formal disciplinary action within twelve months of the position closing date.
External (Lateral) Candidates: Current employment in good standing as a sworn law enforcement officer in an assignment as a first-line supervisor, a minimum of five (5) years' progressively responsible experience as a Sworn Law Enforcement Officer.
All Candidates: Possession of a DPSST Basic Certificate or other equivalent local, state, or federal certification, and the ability to obtain a Supervisory Certificate upon eligibility but no later than 36 months after appointment.
DPSST maintains sole authority to determine acceptable transfer of equivalent local, state, or federal certification to Oregon.
Must be able to pass a personal background check including, but not limited to, criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history pursuant to OAR 259-008-0015.
