Typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Police Records Clerk typically reports to police sergeant or police lieutenant. The Police Records Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Police: Fleet-Clerk Messenger

    The City of Salem Police Department is currently seeking to fill the position of Police: Fleet-Clerk Messenger. The Fleet-Clerk Messenger will be assisting the City of Salem Police Department Fleet Officer, in transporting police vehicles to and from maintenance locations. This may involve having waiting periods to allow time for maintenance to be completed.

    Additionally, this position will also transport sensitive documents to and from the Police Department, the District Attorney's office, or other confidential offices as requested. This position may also include assisting others throughout department with tasks on an as needed basis.

    What you will do: 
    The work is performed both in the field and in the office. Work in the field involves working in inclement weather, traveling to various locations in a city owned vehicle, and moving over uneven surfaces. Work in the office involves the use of telephones, computers, and other electronic devices as assigned or requested.

    What are the minimum qualifications?
    • Must pass the pre-employment drug test (including marijuana).
    • Must pass the extensive pre-employment police background check.
    • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
    • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
    • High school graduate or GED, supplemented by courses in commercial subjects, and one (1) year of clerical experience, preferably in a mail room and courier services operations and/or some experience in a print shop environment, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
