Assists in providing accurate and clear information to public and other departments. Being a Police Records Clerk may perform other clerical duties including taking photographs, fingerprints, and answering telephone inquiries. Typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Police Records Clerk typically reports to police sergeant or police lieutenant. The Police Records Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. This position requires knowledge of clerical practices, procedures, and equipment, including word processing and database systems; basic understanding of civil and criminal laws; basic knowledge of practices, procedures and guidelines relative to police records and police terminology; ability to understand oral and written instructions and to act upon them accordingly, act effectively and calmly in emergency situations, work effectively with the public, other agencies, and other employees. Potential Pay Differentials:
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $23.40 (first step) to $24.55 or $25.78 (second or third step). Directly related experience and qualifications will be evaluated alongside others who perform work of comparable character as required by Pay Equity Law. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
