Police Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Being a Police Patrol Officer requires an associate degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Requires Firearms Certification. Additionally, Police Patrol Officer typically reports to a police sergeant. The Police Patrol Officer works under moderate supervision.   • The Sharon Police Department is currently accepting applications to fill vacancies for the position of Full-Time Police Officer through the lateral transfer process. Qualified candidates must have successfully completed a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) full-time police academy and be in good standing with POST certification. 

    The Sharon Police Department is a non-civil service department, recently awarded “Certification” from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. The Town of Sharon is a multicultural community with more than 90 countries represented by our residents. Our Department is a diverse and professional agency dedicated to providing superior service to our community. 

    The Sharon Police Department is comprised of 31 sworn full-time officers. Specialty units within the department include Detectives, Community Resource Officer, K-9 Unit, School Resource Officer, Traffic Enforcement Officer, Mountain Bike, ATV, and a Motorcycle Unit. The Sharon Police Department is part of the Metro-LEC and NORPAC task forces. Sharon is approximately 24.2 square miles with a population of over 18,000.

The Town of Sharon has competitive health benefits - 70% paid for by the town.
