Police Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Being a Police Patrol Officer requires an associate degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Requires Firearms Certification. Additionally, Police Patrol Officer typically reports to a police sergeant. The Police Patrol Officer works under moderate supervision.     Job Summary/Basic Function
    • To carry out assigned activities, operations and programs within the police department including routine foot patrol, traffic control, crime prevention and events.
    • Primary and principle duties also consist of the prevention and detection of crime and the enforcement of criminal statutes or ordinances of the state or any of its political subdivisions.


    **This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.

    Required Qualifications
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Valid Utah Driver License.
    • Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) LEO State Certification(Active Status).
    • Work a minimum of 20 hours every 6 months
    • Letter of good standing with current employer
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to use word processing software

    Due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals who have worked in a salaried capacity for Weber State University are ineligible to be hired as an hourly or adjunct employee at Weber State for six months.

    This is a reserve/volunteer position until the completion of Field Training Program (F.T.O) at which time the employee would be eligible to be moved into a part-time (as needed) position and receive pay.

    Lastly, you must work a minimum of 20 hours every 6 months.
