Police Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Being a Police Patrol Officer requires an associate degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Requires Firearms Certification. Additionally, Police Patrol Officer typically reports to a police sergeant. The Police Patrol Officer works under moderate supervision.     The typical duties of a police officer include : enforcing the criminal and traffic laws of the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and the Code of the Town of Cheverly, problem solving, report writing, courtroom presentation, and providing effective service to residents.

    In exchange for these duties, police officers are offered a competitive salary and excellent benefits. Shift work is required of all department employees.

    Persons currently certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) are preferred. In addition, minority, female, and bi-lingual (English / Spanish) persons are strongly encouraged to apply.

Physical Assessment Test 2(a) Prior to any applicant's participation in the Physical Assessment Test (PAT), they, along with their primary physician, will be required to fill out an "Attending Physician's Statement / Medical Waiver" form.

    No applicant will be allowed to participate in the PAT without first submitting this document. When instructed to do so, print out and complete the required form.
