Police Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Being a Police Patrol Officer requires an associate degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Requires Firearms Certification. Additionally, Police Patrol Officer typically reports to a police sergeant. The Police Patrol Officer works under moderate supervision.   • The Police Officer performs law enforcement, crime prevention duties and other general police services in the preservation of public safety, property, prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes; enforces Federal, State, Tribal Laws, and ordinances.
    1. Patrol assigned areas, investigate activities, perform surveillance, and enforce local, state, and federal laws as necessary for safety and security.
    2. Respond to calls for service pertaining to criminal activities/civil complaints; secure the scene, conducts preliminary investigations, and establishes law and order.
    3. Conduct follow up investigations as assigned, appear in court to present evidence, and testify as needed.
    4. Prepare, review and revise reports; ensure accuracy and completeness.
    5. Compile information for further analysis and use by supervising officers.
    6. Prepare for and prevent criminal activity through proper training and effective safety procedures; attend training as required for certification.
    7. Participate in community events to promote the department's image and programs.
    8. Perform the functions of a police officer and must demonstrate the ability to perform any related duties that may arise.
    9. Prepare written replies to correspondence.
    10. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

    • Law enforcement principles and practices;
    • Report preparation techniques;
    • Interview techniques and practices;
    • Evidence rules and regulations;
    • Police methods, techniques and procedures;
    • Department policies, rules, regulation, procedures and unit functions;
    • Federal, state, Tribal Criminal Codes and ordinances;
    • Jurisdictional relationships among federal, state, tribal and local ordinances and codes- applicable to Indian Country;
    • Civil and Criminal Liability issues in Law Enforcement;
    • Law enforcement equipment and weaponry;
    • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.

    • Prepare clear, concise, accurate and complete written and oral reports;
    • Exercise good judgment in relating to people and adjusting to dynamic situations;
    • Interview and obtain statements from witnesses, victims and suspects;

    • Demonstrate moral character and ethical decision making;
    • Maintain a professional image in all circumstances;
    • Maintain uniform attire or personal dress in a professional manner that reflects positively on the department;
    • Accept the danger and stress, regimentation, discipline and time demands of police work;
    • Learn and apply acquired skills and techniques to the performance of assignments and duties;
    • Make effective logical decisions and exercise the appropriate measure of tact;
    • Understand, apply and enforce the Use of Force Policy and always use the minimum amount of force necessary for any situation;
    • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity;
    • Maintain confidentiality;
    • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

    High School Diploma or a GED Certificate, plus six (6) months experience as Police Recruit or trainee with the Pascua Yaqui Police Department.

    Lateral Police Officer applicants must be certified Police Officers in the State of Arizona and must have one (1) year experience as a certified officer.

    Additional Requirements
    • Must be a citizen of the United States;
    • Must not have been convicted of any offense that would be considered a felony by the State of Arizona or the United States Government;
    • Must not have been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces;
    • Must not have a domestic violence conviction in any jurisdiction; restricts the ability to possess firearms;
    • May be required to obtain additional certifications; depending on assignment;
    • No formal disciplinary action within one (1) year prior to the time of appointment;
    • Must not have been convicted of or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles with a frequency within the past three years that indicates disrespect for traffic laws or a disregard for the safety of other persons on the roadway.
