Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Police Lieutenant typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     SUMMARY

    Bering Global Solutions, LLC, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Shift Supervisor in Washington, DC. Employees hired for this position will initially be brought on as a part time variable officer until they complete all onboarding training. Once completed, the officer will then transition to a full time status.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

     

    Duties include ensuring PSOs are:

    • Properly trained
    • Performing all duties in accordance with the contract and the Post Orders for the post where they are assigned
    • Properly uniformed and present a neat and professional appearance as referenced in the SMART Book
    • Thoroughly knowledgeable about their duties and demonstrate the ability to act effectively during emergencies or other unusual situations
    • In possession of all necessary permits, CPR, first aid, and AED certifications, and other credentials required by the contract or by local or state law

    Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    Required (Minimum) Qualifications 

    • United States citizen or alien who has been lawfully admitted for permanent residence or employment as evidenced by Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services documentation
    • Certified as a PSO IAW contract standards

     

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

    • Be a minimum of 21 years of age; fluent in speaking, reading, comprehending and writing English due to nature of the position. A “Standardized Literacy Test” which measures and individual’s written and verbal understanding of the English language must be administered prior to employment.
    • Ability to follow established procedures and policies. Post orders to include enforcement of client/company rules, policies, and/OR regulations.
    • Excellent attention to detail, good verbal and written communications, including legible report writing.
    • Ability to provide quality Customer Service.
    • Ability to analyze and produce course of action reporting and escalate issues to management in typical and crisis situations.
    • Ability to work independently OR as part of a small group to resolve urgent issues, process orientated with high attention to detail, and triage a problem quickly providing precise/clear information while working under minimum supervision.
    • Ability to perform essential functions of the position which may include long periods of walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per shift, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime without reasonable accommodations. Outdoor posts may require the ability to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and severe weather (i.e. snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind) for up to four hours without shelter.
    • Ability to see, hear, and smell in order to respond to alarms and detect emergency situations.
    • Ability to use computers and Microsoft office (Excel, Word, etc.), monitor security cameras, and send and receive email using MS Outlook.
    • Reliable and have a strong work ethic.
    • Reliable transportation and current Driver’s License
    • Must able to obtain OR possess any applicable security guard or weapons permit necessary
    • Must be able to pass a background check covering the last 10 years and pass a drug screening due to the nature of the position.
    • Understand the importance of reviewing the previous day’s activity log at the start of each shift, and comprehensively documenting all important events in the Daily Activity Log.

    WORK ENVIRONMENTWork Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

    • Must be able to pass a physical agility test; complete required training and pass examination.
