A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER
As a seasonal Journeyman Plumber, you ensure that our remote research station remains safe and comfortable for the people living and working here.
You maintain and repair existing indoor and outdoor plumbing systems and infrastructure as well as install a variety of fixtures and equipment.
Meticulously, you install and repair valves and other control devices for appliances such as dishwashers, sinks, pumps, and toilets.
You also install and maintain insulated piping for glycol and sewer transport. As needed, you deftly use various power and hand tools to get the job done.
You maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all your work, making note of hours worked, materials used, and tasks performed.
Working in Alaska, you can expect weather conditions to be a little extreme sometimes. However, you're up for the task and adapt your methods accordingly.
This job can be challenging at times, but it doesn't beat the satisfaction you feel from helping others and successfully overcoming obstacles.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER
Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester or Repairer certification would be preferred. Experience with hydronic piping systems would be a plus.
Experience working in commercial or industrial facilities, as well as remote, cold, or polar environments, would be a bonus.

WORK SCHEDULE FOR A JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER
This seasonal position works a varied schedule depending on location, weather, and work requirements. Typically, you can expect to work 50 hours per week, Monday - Saturday .
When necessary, you might need to respond to emergencies outside of working hours. Deployments vary in length and usually occur between April through September .
