RECRUITMENT PROFILE
A key member of the Utility Department’s leadership team, the next Electric Production Superintendent will be someone who is interested in and passionate about leading people and making a lasting impact on the community through professional management of the Electric Production Division.
The position requires highly developed administrative, technical, and interpersonal skills, polished communication and presentation skills, and the ability to perform well under pressure. The Electric Production Superintendent must meet deadlines and develop and maintain credibility and trust within the department and amongst city staff, the public, elected officials, and regulatory agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
The Electric Production Superintendent manages personnel, budget, programs and activities with an eye for continuous improvement to meet the needs and expectations of the community and its residents. A strong, collaborative and visionary style of leadership, both engaging and personable, emphasizing the needs of the organization’s internal and external customers is essential.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in the management of skilled technical workers with a well-rounded base knowledge in the areas of electric production, distribution, and substation operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and be able to communicate complex technical and administrative issues to laymen without any technical experience. Highly developed interpersonal skills are a must for leading and effectively building relationships with the community and with employees across this diverse department.

The Electric Production Superintendent will have a high degree of visibility in the organization and community as they work to promote and market Augusta to the outside world.
The successful candidate will have an active commitment to and appropriate level of involvement in professional networking and training to keep the organization generally, and the Electric Production Division specifically, fully apprised of applicable equipment, training, methods, procedures and technology to meet current and future service demands. The Electric Production Superintendent must display impeccable character, candor and professionalism.
REQUIREMENTS
The preferred candidate will have a High School Diploma and ten years of increasingly responsible experience in power production and energy procurement, employee supervision, development, and performance evaluation. Additional education in the field of power plant production is preferred. American Public Power Association (APPA) and Kansas Municipal Utilities (KMU) training and certifications are a plus.
The Electric Production Superintendent will understand the principals of power plant operations involving the thermal, chemical, mechanical and electric characteristics of the overall plant cycle. The successful candidate will have experience ensuring compliance with complex legal and environmental requirements, preparing clear, complete, accurate written and oral reports, will be comfortable with general office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases, and will be familiar with the principles and capabilities of GIS systems.
