Plant Superintendent supervises and coordinates workers' activities in all phases of plant operations. Develops and manages production and maintenance schedules to meet internal volume, cost, and quality goals. Being a Plant Superintendent utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity, identify issues, and achieve production goals. Troubleshoots operational, materials, equipment, and staffing problems and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Plant Superintendent implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Plant Superintendent manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Manages the day-to-day operations, safety and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Treatment Plant and related facilities. Supervises Plant Managers and/or Plant Operators in the daily operations of the water/wastewater system plants; oversees or monitors and maintains treatment chemical inventory; monitors SCADA controls; ensures the completion of daily, weekly, and monthly monitor reports; oversees or monitors lab work; oversees or monitors all sampling for plant chemical feeds as well as ODEQ compliance; ensures plant and equipment are maintained; coordinates the plant safety programs.
Experience Required: Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a water and/or wastewater plant operator; minimum of two years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum Education Requirements: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.
Direct Supervisor: Public Works Director.
Supervisory Responsibility: Plant Managers; others when assigned.
Primary Work Location: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
