Plant Operations Manager oversees the daily operational activities of a plant or production facility. Develops and manages production schedules to meet internal volume, cost, and quality goals. Being a Plant Operations Manager utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity, identify issues, and set performance targets to achieve production goals. Implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Additionally, Plant Operations Manager oversees staffing and development of all production supervisors and staff and facilitates labor relations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Plant Operations Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Plant Operations Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Supervise or monitor the supervision of the activities of the Administrative Staff, Production Control staff, Production Supervisors, Service Department Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineer and Quality staff. Responsible for the P & L of the Plant. Reports to the V.P. of Manufacturing.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Direct and coordinate activities of all departments through subordinate Supervisors.
    2. Develop methods and practices that focus on the development of skills for all employees.
    3. Establish Capital Budgets and Operating Budgets that result in the realization of plant priorities and objectives.
    4. Establish standards of performance and develop measuring and monitoring tools to achieve compliance.
    5. Coordinate with Sales and Engineering Departments to assure that products are designed and costed in accordance with customer requirements and plant capabilities.
    6. Supervise the Production Control Manager to ensure the plant is maintaining company standards of inventory levels and delivery schedules.
    7. Organize and manage the facility to maximize the efficiency of the company’sinvestment in people, plant and equipment resources.
    8. Develop internal and external resources to attain continuous process improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
    9. Supervise the Administrative Staff to ensure company policies are followed in an orderly and efficient office operation.
    10. Oversee or coordinate with the Customer Service Representativesto ensure proper customer relations and service levels are consistently achieved. Review procedures controlling order entry data.
    11. Oversee Petty Cash Fund in the branch plants only.
    12. Supervise the Production Supervisors to insure Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity and Housekeeping standards are consistently achieved.
    13. Supervise the Manufacturing Engineer providing direction and authority to pursue continuous improvement through out the facility.
    14. Confirm proper maintenance of machines, equipment, facilities and grounds. Ensure appropriate preventive maintenance practices are in place.
    15. Confirm the tooling is in proper working condition and an appropriate preventive maintenance system is followed.
    16. Champion the Shipping/Receiving activities to ensure proper delivery to customers and a regular evaluation of trucking methods is performed.
    17. Audit the activities of the Quality Assurance Technician to assure that an unbiased review is consistently performed on the quality procedures as completed by Production Operators and Production Supervisors.
    18. Monitor and provide direction regarding the activities of the Human Resource Representative to assure proper labor/management communications, plant staffing, Safety Committee participation and safety standards are consistently followed.
    19. Evaluate issues that effect employee turnover and implement corrective actions where appropriate. Implement employee incentive initiatives as required.
    20. Monitor employee training programs for adherence to company policy.
    21. Complete salary reviews in a timely manner for direct reports and monitor the completion of salary reviews for subordinates of direct reports.
    22. Review hourly employee performance reviews to ensure a consistent and fair evaluation process exists at all times.
    23. Review selected purchases. Purchase authorization of up to $10,000 for non-inventory items.
    24. Establish and maintain a positive corporate image in the community.

    TRAVEL: Occasional travel is required on a regular basis. Customer and Supplier visits are occasionally required. Travel to other MPI plants is required on a regular basis.
    CONFIDENTIALITY: Has access to all related costs and process data. Handles personnel and salary information of direct reporting employees. Has access to Company financial statements.
    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Over 5 years up to and including 7 years of managerial supervision, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
    EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
    OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be a self-starter and capable of working with a minimum of direct supervision. Must be able to work with a wide variety of duties/responsibilities and be able to deal with complex issues that are not easily evaluated, and which there may be little precedent.
