Plant Manager directs a plant or production facility's overall operations. Sets and implements policies and procedures that guide plant operations' productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. Being a Plant Manager utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity and set performance targets to achieve production goals. Develops and deploys manufacturing practices focused on quality and continuous improvement. Additionally, Plant Manager develops and implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Collaborates with multi-functional plant teams, including finance, engineering, materials, quality assurance, and human resources. Leads or participates in labor relations negotiations and engages with union leadership involving plant operations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Plant Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Plant Manager typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     SUMMARY
    • Direct and manage all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, warehouse/shipping, employee safety, maintenance, quality and other production-related activities.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Direct and manage plant operations for production, employee safety, maintenance, quality and shipping and receiving.
    • Coordinate plant activities through planning with departmental managers to insure that all manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
    • Develops, coordinates and directs all efforts to promote safety throughout the organization
    • Develop and control budget, through active planning and understanding of the plant P&L
    • Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.
    • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
    • Controls and minimizes labor overtime, premium freight and repair expenses.
    • Maintains existing plant facilities and equipment; replace or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary.
    • Investigates and recommend new equipment or process improvements
    • Provides leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
    • Implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs.
    • Incorporates shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel.
    • Provides direction, development and leadership to all supervision.
    • Onsite contact for government agencies, landlords and various other vendors
    • Actively participate with Regional Sales Management to develop and manage the Regional Operating Unit into a team oriented environment.
     
    SAFETY
    • Wears all required PPE while in the manufacturing facility
    • Monitors the activities of all employees and provides feedback and discipline to promote a safe workplace
    • Oversees the development and organization of all safety related documentation
    • Insures that all required safety related training is conducted
    • Develops and implements employee programs to promote safe employee behavior
    • Audits equipment and the shop floor for safety related improvements
     
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
