Plant Maintenance Manager jobs in Durham, NC

Plant Maintenance Manager oversees the plans for routine preventative maintenance and scheduled turnaround events at a plant or production facility. Estimates required work requests and maintains a consistent tracking system for work orders. Being a Plant Maintenance Manager leads inspection to ensure an effective preventative maintenance procedure and framework. Works closely with technicians, engineers, operations, and managers to establish a schedule of proactive maintenance activities during appropriate downtime. Additionally, Plant Maintenance Manager utilizes planning and scheduling methods to ensure the most effective and least disruptive maintenance possible. Typically uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking and planning maintenance. Manages spare parts inventory to ensure the availability of required parts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. May require a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Plant Maintenance Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Plant Maintenance Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes. Despite being best known as a nursery, we actually exist for our work as a private 28-acre botanical garden and plant research facility focusing on ex-situ plant conservation, plant exploration, breeding, and making plants available via propagation. We are a family-owned company with a mission to support research, education and the exploration of plants through the sales of unique perennial plants. 

    Our nursery and garden provide an opportunity to work indoors and outdoors year-round, so we have a casual dress code, a diverse staff, and a friendly working environment.

    Qualifications

    If you have the following experience and can demonstrate a positive and friendly can-do work ethic, positively motivate staff, have strong organizational and communication skills, take initiative, and pay acute attention to detail we would like to hear from you.

    • College degree in Horticulture or related field
    • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a plant nursery environment.
    • Excellent technology skills: Office 365 – Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Google Docs, Etc.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Effective delegation skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Exceptional time management skills.
    • Excellent report analyzation skills.
