Plant Maintenance Manager oversees the plans for routine preventative maintenance and scheduled turnaround events at a plant or production facility. Estimates required work requests and maintains a consistent tracking system for work orders. Being a Plant Maintenance Manager leads inspection to ensure an effective preventative maintenance procedure and framework. Works closely with technicians, engineers, operations, and managers to establish a schedule of proactive maintenance activities during appropriate downtime. Additionally, Plant Maintenance Manager utilizes planning and scheduling methods to ensure the most effective and least disruptive maintenance possible. Typically uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking and planning maintenance. Manages spare parts inventory to ensure the availability of required parts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. May require a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Plant Maintenance Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Plant Maintenance Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.   • Overview:

    Responsible for managing the maintenance, service and repairs of injection molding machines and plant equipment, Toolroom, buildings and facilities. Manages Maintenance team and oversees work in the areas of repair and preventive maintenance of molding machines, equipment and auxiliary machinery.  Assures the optimal functioning of building systems including, but not limited to, mechanical, fire/life and safety.  Must be able to handle tactical day to day requirements as well as provide strategic direction for establishing proactive preventive maintenance programs which maximize machine up time at optimal cost.

     

    What You’ll Do:

    • Responsible for managing the maintenance, service, and repairs of injection molding machines, plant equipment.
    • Manages Maintenance team and oversees work in the areas of repair and preventive maintenance of molding machines, equipment and auxiliary machinery, welding, plumbing, machine and electrical.
    • Assures the optimal functioning of building systems including, but not limited to, mechanical, fire/life safety and HVAC. Oversees and participates in repair of molding machines, equipment and auxiliary machinery, including but not limited to, chiller units, water towers, thermolators, dryers and compressors.
    • Oversees and participates in preventive maintenance functions such as lubricating equipment and checking gauges, hoses, pumps, belts, motors, and oil levels on machinery.
    • Works closely with the utilities companies to monitor expenses and lead energy saving initiatives.
    • Conducts studies, makes recommendations and implements changes to procedures in order to improve productivity, safety and cost-effectiveness of facilities maintenance functions.
    • Trains, coaches and mentors staff in the areas of safety and standard operating procedures.
    • Assign and maintain daily work schedule for Maintenance team and make sure employees have a thorough understanding of their job tasks and any safety hazards and preventive measures that need to be taken that are associated with the work.
    • Conducts evaluations, recommends pay increases and participates in hiring and disciplinary decisions.
    • Ensures that preventive maintenance programs and standard operating procedures are developed, executed and updated in accordance with ISO guidelines.
    • Maintains inventory of spare parts and supplies and issues purchase requisitions.
    • Prepares and manages annual budget, tracks metrics, and maintains chemical inventories and material safety data sheets on purchased products.
    • Ensures that staff is contributing at maximum potential through rigorous hiring practices and an emphasis on training and development initiatives for team members, including coaching and counseling direct reports in their performance and professional development, with critical input for approving pay increases, hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
    • Establish challenging, productive and achievable goals for direct reports; measure results by establishing checkpoints to track progress.
    • Emphasize ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
    • Actively supports Pelican’s commitment to Quality and Safety, and all quality and safety objectives, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
    • Performs additional duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Manufacturing Operations.
    • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
    • Performs additional duties as assigned.

               

    What You’ll Need:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or accreditation by a technical or vocational college and/or five or more years in a managerial capacity in a manufacturing and/or an injection molding environment.
    • 5 years experience working with general contractors, electrical and data-com contractors, and roofing contractors.
    • Experience managing/co-managing $250K construction projects.
    • 5-10 years working with injection molding machinery.
    • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Demonstrated background in Lean Manufacturing, and Total Preventive/Productive Maintenance concepts preferred.
    • General knowledge of equipment including blending machines, granulators, and auxiliary equipment.
    • General knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, HVAC, machine servicing and electrical servicing in order to effectively troubleshoot and make necessary repairs.
    • General knowledge of plant and machine safety. 
    • Must have excellent analytical and organizational skills, be detail-oriented, able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
    • Must have excellent written, negotiation, presentation, communication and time management skills.
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and/or other productivity/ project management software.
    • Mus be available to work additional hours and evenings or weekends, as may be required to address key issues impacting the business.
    • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Must have the ability to complete assignments within time frame specified.
    • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
