Plant General Manager directs, manages, and optimizes a plant or production facility's overall operations and financial performance (P&L). Sets policies and procedures that guide plant operations' productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. Being a Plant General Manager systematically collects operational metrics to analyze productivity and set performance targets to meet revenue and cost goals. Supports the development and deployment of manufacturing practices focused on quality and continuous improvement. Additionally, Plant General Manager ensures robust plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures are implemented to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Leads labor relations negotiations and engages with union leadership involving plant operations. Oversees multi-functional plant teams including finance, engineering, materials, quality assurance, and human resources. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, finance or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Plant General Manager manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes.
Ensures safety and environmental guidelines are complete and compliance is enforced.
Ensures the efficient and effective operation of the plant by directing and managing all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality and other production-related activities
Coordinate plant activities through planning with departmental managers to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner
Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs and downtime through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital
Ensure attainment of business objectives and production schedules that meet or exceed our company's customer expectations
Maintain productivity levels through effective monitoring of staffing levels and financial requirements. - Develop and control profits plans and budget
Manage spending against budget in relations to changes in production volume
Work to establish management practices throughout assigned areas which include all employee's positive involvement with opportunity for input and action
Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives - Provide direction, development and leadership to the entire manufacturing team.
Manage a multiple shift operation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Manufacturing
7 – 10 years of progressive plant/manufacturing management experience
Thorough knowledge of all plant operating processes and equipment, purchasing procedures, safety procedures, governmental regulations and company policies.
Experience in selecting, defining roles, leading/mentoring/motivating a team
Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills along with working knowledge of MS Office
Must be available to respond to emergency situations as needed
