Plant Accountant provides accounting services for a plant.     The Secretary of State’s Office is currently looking for an individual with high degree of understanding and experience with governmental accounting and federal monitoring and reporting, accounting and budget practices, along with research analysis, audits, and budgetary preparation and reporting. This position coordinates all the fiscal operations of the Secretary of State’s Office.

    Duties Include, but are not limited to:

    • auditing and coding all direct vouchers, travel vouchers, and non-cash vouchers for the office;
    • preparing daily deposits;
    • entering items into the state accounting system;
    • manage financial activity for federal grants;
    • process voucher payments and monitor fiscal activities for multiple programs to ensure that funds are properly accounted for and allocated correctly;
    • assist with budget preparations;
    • state procurement policies and procedures.

    Education, Licenses, and Certifications:

    • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required.

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    • A minimum of 2 years of state government accounting experience is preferred.

    Knowledge of:

    • Microsoft Excel, Word, Query, Teams, and other desktop tools;
    • State of South Dakota Accounting System;
    • Federal fund monitoring, reconciling, and reporting;
    • SD Annual Comprehensive Financial Reporting policies;

    Skill to:

    • manipulate tables and pivot tables in Microsoft Excel;
    • determine the priority of tasks that need to be accomplished;
    • develop working relationships with staff both in the office and other state agencies.

    Ability to:

    • work independently and with minimal supervision;
    • clearly and concisely communicate information;
    • provide professional customer service, internally, and externally;
    • effectively manage multiple tasks and pay close attention to detail;
    • work within a team environment.

    This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
