Director of Academic Budget and Planning

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Budget and Planning, this position serves as the lead academic fiscal position for the university and as a liaison between the Division of Finance and Administration and the Provost/Executive Vice President. The Director is responsible for the direction of long-range planning and resource allocation within Academic Affairs, provides leadership for new and developing initiatives impacting academic units university-wide by developing budget and funding plans, leading efforts to financially structure Academic Affairs, leading and implementing project plans, and providing ongoing assessment and analysis of the effectiveness of selected strategies. The Director reviews and restructures substantial revenue distributions of the general education budget with university-wide impacts. This position conducts analysis of financial and operational issues within the Provost/EVP areas of responsibility including all colleges, departments, regional centers, and non-academic units reporting to the Provost/EVP, develops solutions/tactics, and works collaboratively with the leaders of each unit. This position supervises a team of financial personnel tasked with providing shared fiscal services within Academic Affairs. The Director also serves as the Executive Approver for all human resources staff position decisions within Academic Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in business, finance, accounting or closely related field.
- 5 or more years of financial/budgeting work experience with at least some portion in higher education.
- Experience with complex non-profit funding or state or federal funds.
- Experience with enterprise-wide administrative data processing systems.
- Experience with project management, leadership roles, communication, team building and organizational skills within a complex organization and with a diverse group of individuals.
- Experience identifying and implementing creative solutions to problems, working both independently and as a team member and exercising consistent discretion and judgment.
Editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in business, finance, accounting or closely related field.
- Experience with the Banner enterprise resource planning system.
- 7 or more years of financial/budgeting work experience in higher education.
- Financial/budgeting work experience in or directly related to academic units.
- Ability to identify and implement creative solutions to problems, working both independently and as a team member and exercising consistent discretion and judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
