    As a Director of Development-Planned Giving, you will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects. Works closely with faculty, community leaders, senior administrators and volunteers, the Director secures leadership commitments at the $100,000 level in support of research, education and patient care initiatives supporting Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Hospital Foundation and the Medical College of Wisconsin programs.

    The Director will identify, cultivate and steward planned giving prospects with an increased focus on blended gifts (cash and planned gifts). The Director will be externally focused on leadership and major gift planned giving prospects by designing, implementing and executing a program to acquire deferred giving support for MCW/FHF's needs with emphasis on cultivation and solicitation strategies.

    The Director will also partner with and act as a resource and guide to the other fundraising professionals to secure appropriate planned gift and deferred give opportunities, as part of MCW/FH's larger fundraising efforts. The Director serves as an expert in planned gifts to members of MCW/FHF's fundraising staff in their gift discussions with potential donors, working with planned giving staff to manage the administration of all active estates and other testamentary gifts, including communications with attorneys, fiduciaries, and other advisers. The Director will consistently train MCW/FHF's fundraisers on relevant planned giving topics.

    The Director will understand technical aspects of planned giving vehicles and the relevant tax and estate consequences of these vehicles and how they can be used to enhance MCW/FHF's fundraising efforts. The Director will manage processing of stock gifts, facilitation of life insurance premiums and gifts, bequests, planned and life income gifts, in conjunction with the Development Operations team.

    Responsibilities

    • Reporting to the Managing Senior Director of Development, provides leadership and direction to secure new and increased support from grateful patients, community leaders and friends of the institutions. Working in concert with key clinicians and researchers, responsible for elevating the reputation and prominence of Froedtert & MCW. Goal is to identify, cultivate and solicit donors for major gift commitments, securing philanthropic support for research, education and patient care initiatives supporting Froedtert Hospital Foundation and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
    • Understand of the mission and philanthropic priorities of Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Hospital Foundation and the Medical College of Wisconsin and works collaboratively across the organizations and departments to build on our collective success. Comprehensive understanding of the strategic clinical and research, education, alumni relations and patient care priorities, as well as specific clinical department priorities and needs.
    • Build and strategically steward and manage a portfolio of prospects and donors with capacity to contribute major gifts.
    • Develop giving opportunities aligned to donor interests and the strategic priorities of Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Hospital Foundation and the Medical College of WI. Creatively develop and implement innovative strategies for the successful solicitation of gifts.
    • Working with the Prospect Research team, assess prospects, develop and execute strategies designed to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of prospects to achieve individual and departmental goals.
    • Ability to raise donor sights, articulate aspirational goals and ideas, set priorities, present philanthropic opportunities and close gifts.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with boards, clinical department leaders, faculty, staff, and volunteers associated with his/her portfolios/programs; meet with colleagues across campus to coordinate and execute strategies, utilizing experience and knowledge to build consensus.
    • Make persuasive verbal and written cases for supporting these key priorities, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific projects and programs needing support and ensure effective stewardship of donor relationships.
    • Understanding of the complex principles and techniques associated with planned giving and estate gifts; work collaboratively with Planned Giving colleagues to close planned gifts.
    • Participate in advancement activities and events, including dinners, receptions, and other fundraising initiatives.
    • Responsibility for continual review and overall accuracy of his/her portfolio in database software. Record proposals and actions about prospects and donors in a timely fashion in database.
    • Accountable to annual individual performance goal metrics as well as strategic goals and objectives of department.
    • Prepare and work within division budget and monitor resources and expenditures under span of control.

    Preferred Schedule:
    M-F, Hybrid, 80% Remote / 20% Onsite (Wednesdays or as needed).


    Position Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

    Minimum education: Bachelor's Degree
    Minimum experience: 4 years of successful professional fundraising experience and a proven track record of closing five and six-figure gifts in a complex organization.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preferred experience: Planned giving experience. Philanthropy in a health care or foundation setting.
