Pipeline Technician is responsible for the maintenance and correct operation of an oil or gas pipeline system. Troubleshoots, tests, maintains, and repairs pipeline equipment which may include valves, operators, and filtration systems. Being a Pipeline Technician performs periodic inspections and routine maintenance on the pipeline system. Completes maintenance records, service reports, and other required documents. Additionally, Pipeline Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Pipeline Technician may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     DEFINITION

    Under minimal supervision of the appropriate administrator, performs a wide range of responsible technical library, and clerical duties related to provision of service in a computer-based information center / library and open access computer laboratory setting;

    supports instruction as assigned.

    CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

    The library services technician assumes responsibility for a variety of technical library / tasks. Incumbents are delegated a substantial amount of administrative detail and non-routine work with a high degree of visibility and contact with faculty, students, and members of the public.

    Incumbents may be assigned responsibility for work within a functional area of learning resources, such as circulation, cataloging, or student computer facilities.

    The incumbent works with students, faculty, staff and members of the community in support of successful learning. Incumbents are expected to model good public relations and to provide support to students in the learning resource center.

    Essential Functions and Qualifications

    • Provides library support services to faculty, staff, students and community members using standard print and electronic resources to answer basic questions in person and electronically.
    • Performs technical work involved in the acquisition, cataloging, and circulation of print and electronic resources including computer programs.
    • Maintains computer-based electronic resources including trouble shooting of programs and equipment.
    • Maintains library's online database records; compiles statistical reports from the database.
    • Guides students to learning resources and informs students in the use of computers and other resources to access information or to operate basic computer programs maintained in learning resources.
    • Recommends for hire, trains and supervises student employees.
    • Performs routine clerical operations including cashiering, overdue records, reserved materials files, scheduling of student access computers, preparation of reports, student time sheets, and other reports as requested.
    • Participates in planning, designing, and maintaining learning resources public service areas to ensure a supportive, friendly, functional service environment.
    • Assists in coordination of learning resource services operations.
    • Provides students with operating instructions in the use and care of library technological hardware.
    • Oversees and implement the policies and procedures related to semester-long special collections.
    • Maintains required documentation and records of library technology hardware for semester-long and short-term lending.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge of :

    • Basic library terminology and technical processes such as acquisition, cataloging, circulation, and maintenance of reserve material files;
    • Basic computer operations including installation of programs and equipment trouble-shooting, and familiarity with Windows environment and Microsoft Office;
    • Stand-alone and remote information services and indexes;
    • General office practices and procedures;
    • Library reference service and computer instructional techniques.
    • Library print and electronic information resources

    Demonstrated ability to :

    • Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work;
    • Understand and carry out oral and written directions, including the application of technical manuals for computers, computer programs, and the library's on-line circulation system;
    • Operate personal computers in a network environment, office machines, and audio
    • visual equipment and instruct others in the operation of same;
    • Interpret Learning Resource guidelines, maintain order in public areas, and generally model an appropriate public relations demeanor;
    • Conduct a standard reference interview with students, faculty, staff and members of the
    • community to ascertain information needs;
    • Train and oversee the work of student workers.
    • Successfully handle inquiries from media and the public regarding events and programs.
    • Manage online circulation, serials, acquisition, and cataloging operations.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions :

    • Regularly lifts, carries, pushes and / or pulls 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, pushing and / or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
    • Work requires standing for prolonged periods of time.
    • Duties are primarily performed in an office environment, at a desk or at a computer terminal.

    Special Qualification :

    A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education / Experience

    An associate degree in library science or comparable library / media technician program and two years of responsible library / media experience is preferred.

    Two or more years of experience with operation of computers using a Windows-based environment and Microsoft Office and its applications.

    Additional Information

    The desired start date is July / August 2024. This is a part-time. 19.5 hours, 10-month classified position.

    Please note this position is located the evening at the Lompoc Valley Center.

    Hours for this position are :

    Monday and Wednesday - 4 : 00 p.m. - 8 : 00 p.m.

    Tuesday and Thursday - 5 : 00 p.m. - 8 : 00 p.m.

    Friday - 9 : 00 a.m. - 2 : 30 p.m.

    Bargaining unit employees whose regular work schedule requires work after 6 : 00 p.m. and before 6 : 00 a.m. for two (2) or more days per week shall receive a shift differential according to the following schedule :

    9.3.2 Two-and-one-half percent (2.5%) above their regular rate of pay for all hours worked provided the shift includes two (2) hours between 6 : 00 p.m. and 6 : 00 a.m.
