Job Summary:
This position installs and manages the upkeep of various pipe equipment and systems. Their primary duties include reviewing plumbing system blueprints, fixing pipe and plumbing systems, and ensuring pipes meet the proper specifications. The Pipefitter is responsible for installing or repairing plumbing, and the duties range from fabricating piping and materials to assembling systems and ensuring they're running effectively and do not leak. This position may work on plumbing systems, heating, and cooling piping, marine piping systems, and more.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Inspect the workplace, clear obstructions, and prepare materials and equipment
Review plumbing system blueprints, pipe systems, and related equipment installations and understand requirements
Using a variety of tools to modify pipes to specifications
Measure and cut and thread pipes according to requirements
Assemble and weld pipe components and systems
Install and secure pipes to walls and fixtures with brackets, clamps, and welding equipment
Order materials such as pipes, hangars, brackets, hydraulic cylinders, etc
Test functionality of hydraulic and other systems
Repair and maintain pipe systems, supports, and related equipment such as radiators and HVAC units
Clear pipe systems of obstructions and test their functionality
Complying with relevant codes and regulatory standards
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
At least five (5)years of related experience required
Successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship that included classroom and on-the-job instruction in pipefitting or related field
Knowledge of health and safety guidelines while working with dangerous equipment and chemicals
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary
Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
Valid State Driver’s License, certified in operation and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems, and certified in pipe joining procedure
Current American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welder (CW) certification
