Pipefitter assembles and repairs pipe systems of various shapes, sizes, and pressures. Ensures proper placement, alignment, and operation according to blueprints and instructions. Being a Pipefitter requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Pipefitter works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.   • The Pipefitter is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work process instructions in order to measure, cut, thread and bend pipe (of multiple material types) to required shape using hand and power tools. This position must also have the ability to install prepared pipe into systems. This role reports directly to the Lead man or Foreman as assigned.

    Essential Functions:
    • Lays out and fabricates piping and possess the ability to install into established piping systems within technical guidelines.
    • Read and interpret basic drawings, technical manuals and weld symbols.
    • Pass tack-weld test procedure
    • Inspection of work, identification of potential problems, initiation of corrective actions.
    • Perform as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the supervisor.
    • Must possess experience in the trade and knowledge of ship terminology
    • Must have working knowledge of procedures, strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow directions
    • Use and read a tape measure
    • Lay out material
    • Fit -up material
    • Prepare for rigging of material
    • Comprehensive Torch and Tac-Weld Work
    • Use a radius gage
    • Use hand power tools
    • Conduct Lock-Out/ Tag-Out
    • General Knowledge of USN Standard Items
    • Possess the ability to bend Pipe mandrel pipe bender
    • Proficiency in brazing
    • Understand rolling off set

    Necessary Equipment Operation, but not limited to the following:
    • Blow torches, motorized cutting torches, pattern cutting torches and welding torches
    • Taps or dies

    Work Environment:
    This job operates inside and aboard ships both offshore and onshore as well as confined spaces. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required. Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary depending on schedule and job contract. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
