  • General Summary

    Provides radiation safety oversight of the York Hospital Radiation Safety Program and ensures the proper calibration and functioning of diagnostic imaging equipment in Imaging and other System departments.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:
    • Assists in establishing, implementing and reviewing the Radiation Safety Program, including policies, procedures, audits, exposure reviews, etc..
    • Conducts diagnostic checks of imaging equipment at required intervals and participates in the assessment of new technology.
    • Provides required radiation safety in-services to employees and physicians.
    • Maintains radiation measuring equipment and radioactive material inventories.
    • Advises patients, physicians and employees of their radiation exposures/doses as required.
    • Evaluates accidents/incidents involving radiation/radioactive materials and prepares reports for review and inspection.
    Common Expectations:
    • Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
    • Maintains appropriate records, reports, and files as required.
    • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
    • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
    • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
    • Participates as a didactic instructor in the WellSpan Radiography Program. Prepares and maintains course outlines and objectives, instructs and evaluates students, and reports progress. Cooperates with the program director in periodic reviews and revisions of course materials.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:
    • Masters Degree In Radiation Physics or Medical Physics. Required
    Work Experience:
    • 3 years Relevant experience. Required and
    • Experience in Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering, Applied Health Physics or other related physical science. Required
    Licenses:
    • Board Certified in Diagnostic Medical Physics within 3 years Required
